ATM IV is elevated at 23.7%, with a 42-point straddle, making 0DTE premiums expensive. Today is a major catalyst day: FOMC at 2 PM ET, followed by MSFT and GOOGL earnings after the bell. Expect possible pre-FOMC chop and IV contraction, followed by sharp volatility expansion. Below 7650, downside volatility could accelerate. Bullish Scenario call trigger : 7750, Wait for a 5-minute candle to close above 7750. Prefer a successful retest before entering calls. Stop loss: A 5-minute close back below 7740 or failed breakout retest. Take partial profits at UT1 and trail the remainder. Bearish Scenario Put Trigger: Below 7725 7725 is today's important pivot. A confirmed breakdown and failed retest could open the downside. Stop loss: A 5-minute reclaim above 7735 or successful retest back above the broken level. With FOMC tomorrow, I expect cautious price action and potential IV contraction. Premiums remain relatively expensive, (not bad). If SPX Goes up: Call trigger: 7715 I want a clean 5-minute candle close above 7715, preferably followed by a successful retest. Stop Loss: Initial invalidation below 7705. If SPX Goes Down: Put trigger: 7695 A 5-minute candle closing below 7695 Stop Loss: Initial invalidation above 7705 Sideways Idea: 7670/7665 short puts 7740/7745 short calls I also carried a short iron condor overnight! Good morning, traders! ☕☀️🙏 Happy Sunday! One 5-minute candle can make all the difference in options trading! 🎯 Look at this real SPX setup from June 2. Three things I identified BEFORE entering: 1. Entry: Above 7600 after a confirmed 5-minute candle close. 2. Stop Loss: 7590 if the setup fails. 🎯 Target: 7615 (UT1). Price confirmed our entry, reached our target, and eventually reversed. Why does this matter? Most beginners focus only on finding the perfect entry. But knowing where to exit is just as important. I don't use random percentage stops on SPX 0DTE. My stops are based on price structure and invalidation levels. Sometimes that means accepting a 30–50% premium loss. That's why position sizing matters. My rule: Plan the trade. SPX rallied to 7770 on Wednesday, just 9 points shy of our upper bound, before reversing and closing the week at 7624. What did we learn? Expected moves are probability ranges, NOT guaranteed reversal levels. Elevated IV made selling premium attractive. A well-placed iron condor could have worked, but Wednesday’s rally would have tested our risk management. SPX closed inside our expected range, but the journey was volatile. The path matters just as much as the destination! My biggest takeaway: IV tells us what movement is priced in, while price action helps us decide when to buy or sell premium.
