Incase you’re finding it to understand and read through the article by @TheTNetwork, here’s a breakdown of what’s in it: First, it is pertinent to note that big companies are sitting on a massive amount of Bitcoin. Right now, they hold over a million of them, mostly just keeping them locked away in digital vaults. But lately, these companies want to start putting their Bitcoin to work. They want to use it to get loans in the digital finance world. The big challenge is figuring out how to do this safely without handing over control of their valuable assets. In the past, if a company wanted to borrow money against its Bitcoin, it had to give the actual coins to a central lending business. As we saw a few years ago when several big crypto lenders went bankrupt, handing over your coins means you might never get them back. The risk of losing everything is simply too high for major institutions. A new system from the Threshold Network offers a clever fix. They created a way to separate the actual Bitcoin from the digital tokens that get used in the market. The process works in three simple steps: ⇝ The company keeps its real Bitcoin securely locked in its own approved storage. ⇝ A matching digital placeholder token is created on another network. ⇝ The company uses that new placeholder token to participate in lending markets while the actual Bitcoin stays put. This approach is much safer for a few reasons. Instead of trusting a central company to hold your funds, you rely on strict rules written in computer code. Because the company only uses a placeholder token, the real Bitcoin remains perfectly safe in the vault even if the lending market fails or gets hacked. Plus, the whole system is transparent. Anyone can check the public records to verify that the original Bitcoin is sitting exactly where it should be and has not been secretly loaned out to someone else. The biggest hurdle right now is not security, but the size of the market. These large companies have so much Bitcoin that deploying even a tiny fraction of it could completely overwhelm the current digital lending platforms. Before a company jumps in, it has to carefully check if the market is big enough to handle its massive trades and ensure it can safely pull its money out during a crisis. While this system is still getting ready to launch, financial institutions are already reviewing the technology to prepare. We are shifting from an era where companies just held Bitcoin to one where they actively use it. This new setup finally gives them a way to tap into digital lending without ever letting their actual Bitcoin leave the vault.
