I really love @obscuravpn , so I built my own Android client for it.
How Obscura works, in short: your traffic goes through two hops run by two different companies. The first hop is an Obscura relay. It sees your IP but can't read your traffic, because your WireGuard tunnel is encrypted all the way to the second hop. The second hop is a Mullvad exit. It sees where your traffic goes, but only ever sees Obscura's IP, never yours. Neither company gets both pieces.
I love the model, but the official Android app was slow on my phone. So I wrote Ombra, an unofficial client: a native Android app on top of Obscura's open-source Rust core, plus a pile of my own patches. It's out now, Android only.
Numbers on my Pixel 9 Pro XL, same entry relay, home Wi-Fi (rough estimates):
- Download: from ~30 to ~270 Mbit/s
- Upload: from ~85 to ~240 Mbit/s
- Ping while uploading: from 110-250 ms to ~50 ms
- CPU time per GB downloaded: from ~300 s to ~25 s
Most of the speed comes from how the Rust core handles packets. Writes to the VPN interface now run on their own thread, packets stay on one CPU core instead of bouncing around, and QUIC is tuned for a tunnel, with fewer ACKs and a fixed packet size so nothing gets split in two. Padding got cheaper too: small packets share one padded packet, about 10x less upload.
More control than the official app:
- Pick the entry relay and the exit by country, city or server, or let it choose the fastest, and pin favourites
- Three protocols: Stealth (WireGuard inside QUIC), Speed (plain WireGuard over UDP, for networks that don't block it) and TCP/TLS
- DNS content blocking, custom DNS, split tunnelling, local network access
- Quick Settings tile
Privacy:
- The app ships without analytics, crash reporting, Google Play Services or third-party SDKs. Only the Rust core talks to Obscura.
- Your WireGuard key and your account details are encrypted with an Android Keystore key.
- Key rotation every 30 days, every day or at every connect. The original core only checked the key age when the tunnel stopped, and an always-on VPN almost never stops.
- No log files unless you turn on diagnostics.
GPL-3.0, Android 16+ (arm64). Ombra is not made by Obscura.

🚨 PARAGUAY 🇵🇾 RIOTS IN THE STREETS AFTER 3 MILLION PEOPLE GOT LOCKED OUT OF THEIR OWN MONEY
The central bank shut down Ueno Bank, one of the biggest banks in the country.
3 million customers. About 60% of all adults in Paraguay.
Salaries. Pensions. Savings. FROZEN.
No app. No cards. No ATMs.
Even $380 million of the state pension fund is stuck inside.
Covid locked people inside their homes. This locked them out of their own money.
Then it turned POLITICAL.
President Santiago Peña, the right-wing friend of Milei and Kast, was a SHAREHOLDER in Ueno's holding company until 2025.
And the man he picked to run the central bank in 2023 used to run Ueno.
Within 24 hours:
• the central bank chief signed his resignation after Peña asked for it
• Ueno's CEO handed himself in to police, 5 more executives DETAINED
• crowds in central Asunción demanding Peña's exit
• the opposition pushing to impeach him
The last time Paraguay's banks broke, in 1995, more than half of them went down.
If you want the parts of this story Paraguay's government would rather you never heard, follow me.

THE FIGHT AGAINST DAC8 BEGAN IN FRANCE.
IT IS NOW SPREADING ACROSS EUROPE.
Bull Bitcoin opened the first front in France, where it is challenging the decree that transposes DAC8 into French law before the Conseil d’État, the country’s highest administrative court, and asking for the directive itself to be referred to the EU Court of Justice.
@bitcoin_at has now opened the second front in Austria: at its initiative, attorney Dr. Oliver Völkel (CERHA HEMPEL) has filed a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority.
The case is set to go through the Federal Administrative Court to the Constitutional Court, and from there potentially to the EU Court of Justice, the same road that brought down EU data retention in 2014.
As a non-profit association backed by local industry actors, Bitcoin Austria puts its time, effort, and reputation on the line for every Bitcoin (and crypto) user in Europe. This work deserves the respect of the entire industry.
Because DAC8 has been transposed in all 27 Member States, it can be challenged in every one of them, and with two fronts now open, 25 remain.
We invite associations, lawyers and industry players to bring this fight to their own country and to join the European front. More information below 👇

Ne abbiamo parlato qui: bitcoin4business.it/2026/11/…
I know multiple people who basically quit working on Bitcoin because of how stressful it is to maintain software that handles money nowadays.
I tell them all the same thing: What do you think will happen if we all quit and become gardeners? Are we just going to give up on the internet? Do we just accept fiat as the end game? Are we just going to let go of the dream of an internet that doesn't exploit your humanity and take away your rights to privacy and self-determination?
I know, fuck, it is hard. But you're not alone.
We must fix this. Nobody else is there to do the necessary work. If we stop doing this, we're 100% doomed. I can guarantee it.
But if we continue, we have a chance.

🔄BITPOST × 🛒 SHOPPY CODE ( @shoppycode)
🤝 A PARTNERSHIP THAT MARKS A TURNING POINT!
We are proud to announce a new strategic partnership between Bitpost and Shoppy Code.
🏭 Shoppy Code is an Italian company operating since 2022, specializing in the digital distribution of gift cards, shopping vouchers, and corporate welfare solutions, with approximately €3 million in revenue in 2025.
This partnership brings together two companies with different areas of expertise but a shared vision: making Bitcoin increasingly accessible and truly usable in everyday life.
✅️Thanks to the Shoppy Code ecosystem, Bitpost users will gain access to an extensive catalog of gift cards and shopping vouchers across numerous categories:
🛒 Groceries and supermarkets
⛽️ Fuel and mobility
✈️ Travel and experiences
🎁 Gift cards from leading brands
🛍 Shopping, entertainment, and services
🧡 TWO WAYS TO USE BITCOIN. ONE OPPORTUNITY.
At the heart of this partnership is Bitpost's peer-to-peer exchange model, which allows users to exchange Bitcoin and gift cards directly with one another.
🔽 For those who want to spend Bitcoin: obtain Shoppy Code's The Gift Card (TGC), which can be redeemed at shoppycode.com to purchase gift cards from numerous brands, redeemable both online and in physical stores.
🔼 For those who want to accumulate Bitcoin: offer gift cards in exchange for Bitcoin, encouraging P2P transactions through financial incentives for those who choose to participate.
🔥 THE DOUBLE BENEFIT OF USING BITCOIN!
This is where the partnership becomes even more exciting!
On Bitpost, users can obtain gift cards at discounts ranging from 10% to 25% or even more, depending on available offers, thanks to individuals willing to offer attractive deals in exchange for Bitcoin, opportunities that are becoming increasingly difficult to find through traditional channels.
But the savings don't stop there!
By using TGC on Shoppy Code to purchase additional gift cards, users also earn reward points (PTS), which can later be redeemed for additional gift cards either for free or at discounted prices, according to the loyalty program's terms and conditions.
💥A real double advantage: save on Bitpost and unlock additional benefits on Shoppy Code!
🇮🇹 STARTING IN ITALY, WITH OUR EYES ON THE FUTURE.
The partnership will initially launch in the Italian market, with the goal of progressively expanding the offering and jointly exploring new opportunities, services, and markets.
💡YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT. A NEW PHASE OF GROWTH.
Today, thanks to the Bitpost ecosystem, Bitcoin is no longer just a store of value, it becomes a real medium of exchange.
With a system like this, using Bitcoin for everyday purchases can be significantly more cost-effective than paying in euros.
🌐 We have finally connected the Bitcoin world to the real economy through peer-to-peer exchanges, making it possible to use Bitcoin for everyday purchases while creating a true win-win situation that benefits both sides of every transaction.

Seguiranno aggiornamenti.
Come sempre, state in campana.
