We are more than ready to answer for our actions and we know that people all across this city and beyond will support us. (6/6)
As far as we are concerned, the step we took was necessary and fully justified. If the authorities feel that taking the fence down was a greater crime than putting it up, they will have to act as they see fit. (5/6)
The neighbourhood surrounding this site is in desperate need of housing and we intend to ensure that it becomes social housing that meets that need. In doing this, we are ready to challenge the power of the developers and the politicians who serve their interests. (4/6)
We had recently put up on the fence photos of local people and statements from them on their need for housing but these were contemptuously removed. So, as we had made clear we would, we took down the fence, as an insulting symbol of greed the community won’t tolerate. (3/6)
This property has sat empty for almost 2 decades and KingSett, the present owner, is allowing this to continue in order to make a profit when the condo market recovers. (2/6)
Yesterday we removed the barbed wire fence that developer, KingSett Capital erected at 214-230 Sherbourne in Toronto’s Downtown East. (1/6)

Today, @230Fightback took down the insulting barbed wire fence that had been erected by Toronto developer KingSett Capital to protect a vacant property from people in need of #housing. The authorities must decide if bringing down this fence is more criminal that putting it up.

@230Fightback today removed the barbed wire fence that a #developer is using to protect its investment from people in Toronto who need #housing.
As you can see, our action immediately received a very powerful endorsement from above.

@230Fightback took down a barbed wire fence that a Toronto developer put up to 'protect' vacant land from people in need of housing.
Believing this to be a just and necessary act, we did this publicly in the belief that the crime was putting this fence up and not taking it down.

On Wednesday, October 14, 230 Fightback and TUHU put up a line of photos along this insulting fence of 215-230 Sherbourne Street that featured local neighbours and quoted them on the need for housing in the community.
KingSett and its enablers at City Hall are making a very big mistake if they imagine that their high-handed conduct is going to be passively endured.
This fence must be brought down and social housing must be built at 214-230 Sherbourne.
It seems that KingSett won’t even tolerate this form of legitimate community expression. Two days later, the photos were removed and the compelling message they conveyed have been disregarded.
