I advocate learning #FMS through #play - children's natural driver of movement. Each of the 132 activities in my book draws from dance, gymnastics, athletics, games & traditional childhood activities. Differentiation is built in. Please DM me for more details re. purchase #physed

Do not accept half a solution. Do not believe half truths. Do not dream half a dream. Do not fantasize about half hopes. Half the way will get you nowhere. You are a whole that exists to live a life, Not half a life.

Irrelevant, as if recovery from 9 months of pregnancy and childbirth while sleep deprived and feeding a newborn from your own body is irrelevant to the topic at hand.

I'd say the first priority needs to be "do no harm". If the Govian system has left us with greater disengagement, unhappiness, NEET crisis, mental health damage and suicides, THAT, and the people behind those harms (from top to bottom) need to be dealt with first.

Meanwhile, the post-Gove English school system has reduced breaktimes, reduced & deprioritised PE, and punishes moment that deviates away from SLANT rigidity. All in the name of "rigour" & "The Science of Learningโ„ข๏ธ" ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคกnews-medical.net/news/202610โ€ฆ

It's hard to get a non-partisan opinion on the potential changes because so many of the loudest voices have a vested financial interest in either the status quo or whatever the opposite of status quo currently is.

โ€œRun freeโ€ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ โ€œClimb treesโ€ ๐ŸŒณ โ€œPlay in mudโ€ โ˜„๏ธ P.S. Thereโ€™s plenty of research on how gross motor skills improve fine motor skills (e.g. handwriting). And immune systems build via mud play. Why is this not shouted about from the top of the teaching hill? ๐Ÿค”
You don't know how hard this hits. ๐Ÿ˜ข Looking at schools for the little man to start next Sep and the number of them who crow about phonics this, academic that. I want to scream, "He's 3! Just help him to run free, climb trees, play in mud and become a good person, pleeeease!"

Resharing this as I'm still tired of hearing "guys" ๐Ÿคช
Gender-neutral ways to address a group in sport/PE. Something other than 'guys'? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I loved 'epic humans' - how about you? I also just use 'OK everyone' to regain a group's attention ๐Ÿ˜Š #physed #physicaleducation

My favourite alternative for primary now is โ€œbugsโ€ - a teacher mate told me she uses this ๐Ÿคญ โ€œBugsโ€ could include young childrenโ€™s fascination ๐Ÿ› ๐Ÿœ ๐Ÿž but secretly mean โ€œsometimes irritatingโ€ too ๐Ÿ˜‚

You canโ€™t change a pupils behaviour with more discipline, more consequences for skills they havenโ€™t developed yet.We need to teach them what they can do when they feel dysregulated & guide them in understanding how to develop the emotional skills they havenโ€™t learned yet.

Absolutely bonkers this analogy. Comparing a school's exclusion rate with a hospital's mortality rate is a false equivalence. A hospital's job is to treat people who are ill ๐Ÿค”a school's job is to educate children, manage behaviour & support their development Make it make sense.
The weak analogies continue ๐Ÿคช Where to begin with this? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ™„ โ€œCriticising a school for having a higher than average rate is like criticising a hospital for having a greater mortality rate than the cinema next doorโ€.

While sorting my mum's house this week, I came across this article. Rose-tinted specs perhaps, but 'cookies and milk' followed by a mid afternoon nap with a blanket sounds pretty appealing๐Ÿฅฐ @3dancingfeet @rebecca5key @llewelyn20 @VerandaThought @DHTDurrant

Yes, the surface stuff about behaviour and rules and consistency is all persuasive (and tbh fine) but the darker underpinnings are about power, authority and compulsion. Itโ€™s why they mock sociology and psychology as it shines a light into these places.

How did Tom Bennett ever get into the position he did, when this is the quality of his argument?!? ๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก As per usual, dodgy & flawed analogies to justify his legally questionable "punish first, ask questions never" mindset & proclamations. Time's up Tom. Off you pop ๐Ÿ‘‹

Indeed ๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ
My fear with people like Bennett is seeing naive and easily swayed ECTs or trainees taking some of his bile on board. On the surface some appears โ€˜good adviceโ€™ but once you dig deeper, thereโ€™s no substance to any of it
