A Hollywood director dug into how OxyContin got approved.
You'd assume 50 FDA scientists signed off on it. In reality, it came down to one official, who Purdue took to a hotel room near DC for a couple of days.
He came out and approved it with a label saying that OxyContin was "believed" to reduce abuse. About a year and a half later, he went to work for Purdue. 🧵

Ethiopia & Eritrea Should Coexist Peacefully For Peace In The Horn of Africa
External interests are financing and stewarding the incremental destabilisation of the Horn of Africa, and it is up to the countries involved in the latest round of escalations to recognise what is being done to them and avoid getting pulled into a war that benefits no one in the region.
This was the message expressed by the former Eritrean diplomat and senior UN official Girmay Haile while speaking to CGTN Africa on 18 October 2026, on the subject of the budding military confrontation between Ethiopia and Eritrea. According to Haile, the "misguided and fallacious" narratives being promoted by Ethiopia are also not helping to resolve the crisis, even as UN Security Council members have stated that both sides should go back to the negotiating table and avoid military escalation.

⚡️ Mayor Zohran Mamdani's NYPD is poised to sign a three-year, $750,500 no-bid contract with Israeli surveillance firm Cognyte for FalcoNet, an AI-driven device that mimics a cell tower to track phones and can be mounted on police cars and drones or hidden in a backpack, the New York Daily News reported.
Cognyte won a tender to sell intercept spyware to Myanmar's state telecom weeks before the 2021 military coup, Reuters previously reported. Meta banned the firm the same year, saying its customers used fake accounts to target journalists and politicians in Kenya, Mexico and Indonesia.
The firm is part of an Israeli surveillance industry that grew big as a result of the military's monitoring of Palestinians, whose phone calls Israel's Unit 8200 has intercepted and stored by the millions, including to carry out genocide in Gaza and enforce a brutal illegal occupation in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

ISRAEL’S PRIME MINISTER Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday warned that the country would be destroyed by a pair of nuclear bombs in “a second holocaust” if he doesn’t win today’s election—as he shared an AI image of Tel Aviv being nuked.
He did not tell voters that only one country in the region has a secret and thoroughly illegal arsenal of nuclear weapons, and that is Israel itself.
Netanyahu also appeared to trivialize accusations about the killings by the Israeli Defence Forces that have shocked the world, referring to “some foolish, insignificant blood libel storm”.

In a letter he publicized on x with the image, he crowed about his secret weapon: the fact that he has Trump’s ear.
“Finishing the job” of protection against a planned nuclear attack “won't happen with a prime minister who can't pick up the phone and have a continuous, intimate conversation with Trump,” he said.
Netanyahu called for the support of voters as crucial to life itself, saying that the people who will not vote for a rival candidate are “Anyone who cares about their own physical existence, that of their family, and their loved ones…”

ATTACKER NOT VICTIM
While Israel always presents itself as victim, it has in fact attacked multiple communities in recent years: Iran, Palestine (Gaza and the West Bank), Syria, Lebanon, Qatar, and Yemen.
Israel’s military operations are largely paid for by the United States, but Tel Aviv also gets massive help from Germany (military equipment and ammunition); and the United Kingdom (intelligence and jet-bomber components). Canada and Australia also have political and supply chain ties with Israel.
In all the above countries, the public opposes the provision of support to Israel, but are largely ignored by people in power, for unclear reasons.
In recent months, India too has been supplying military tech, drones and rockets to Netanyahu’s armed forces.

Most of my students, who are otherwise intelligent, hardworking, very good young men and women, but when you ask them about these issues, they talk as if socialism, communism, Marxism, anarchism, and many other things are synonyms. Therefore, for there to even be a serious socialism in this country, which there now is, is an amazing achievement. The whole country is indebted to Bernie Sanders because he broke the taboo by saying, “No, I’m not going to run away from the label socialist.” But we are in the early stages now, so it’s basically too early to answer your question beyond saying it’s very impressive how quickly it’s growing.
The latest Gallup polls in our country show that if you ask people below the age of 34, the majority now say they prefer socialism to capitalism.’

The ICJ found Israel's occupation unlawful. It must end.
Until then, under int'l law, Palestinians have the right to resist it through lawful means.

A war is coming to the West Bank
Yesterday Palestinian resistance fighters conducted a surgical strike against Israeli occupation soldiers, fully in accordance with international law.
In response, Israeli government immediately announced that they will do war crimes and started doing war crimes.
All the Palestinian villages in the West Bank are under siege, the city of Hebron is under siege. IDF is demolishing house after house, raiding family after family. They said they want to turn Hebron into Rafah.
More than 250 families were kicked out into the streets with nothing. People slept on the street last night.
The Israeli election is in 3 days, and the Netanyahu-Smotrich government is going to use this to start a war in the West Bank.
The only way to stop this is pressure from all directions. We know it works. International pressure worked for the besieged house in Qusra, which still belongs to the Palestinians because of the all-around attention. It can work for Hebron too.
But it will require EVERYONE reading this doing everything they can to stop this. Call your representative, hold a demonstration, organise direct action against the occupation’s assets abroad. Keep attention on the West Bank.

People have no idea how far right Democrats, even the so called “progressive” ones, are compared to the rest of the world.
Lula on Zelensky: "I don’t know the President of Ukraine. But his behavior is a bit weird. It seems like he’s part of the spectacle. He is on television morning, noon, and night. He is in the U.K. parliament, the German parliament, the French parliament, the Italian parliament, as if he were waging a political campaign. He should be at the negotiating table.
Reporter: Can you really say that to Zelensky? He didn’t want a war, it came to him.
Lula: He did want war. If he didn’t want war, he would have negotiated a little more. That’s it. I criticized Putin when I was in Mexico City [in March], saying that it was a mistake to invade. But I don’t think anyone is trying to help create peace. People are stimulating hate against Putin. That won’t solve things! We need to reach an agreement. But people are encouraging [the war]. You are encouraging this guy [Zelensky], and then he thinks he is the cherry on your cake. We should be having a serious conversation: “OK, you were a nice comedian. But let us not make war for you to show up on TV.” And we should say to Putin: “You have a lot of weapons, but you don’t need to use them on Ukraine. Let’s talk!”
