Critical Defense Ring’s boost is almost 2x Weapon Jump L Ring for me, so I went with CDR. Super cheap. Enhanced to Lv.2, failed twice, finally hit it! @MaplestoryU

Special Skill Rings are one of the biggest damage upgrades in MapleStory N right now — and a lot of players still treat them like a luxury item they cannot touch. That is changing. The Rank 2 Special Skill Ring Box was around 70 million NESO in week one. It is now sitting near 13–13.5 million NESO. That is not a small dip. That is the market finally pricing in “this box does not contain the two S-tier rings,” while still leaving a very real A-tier payoff inside. Quick primer if you just started seeing these rings: Special Skill Rings are not normal accessories. You do not scroll them, star them, or pot them. You equip them and they give you a unique skill. The best thing a Rank 2 box can actually give you is a Weapon Jump Ring (S / D / I / L, matching your main stat). Weapon Jump is an Active ring. For 9 seconds, it converts a large portion of your main weapon’s Attack or Magic Attack into raw main stat. In MapleStory N that is about +65% of the higher weapon stat, on a 120-second cooldown. It is not as famous as RoR or Con, but it is the same family of burst tool: press it, dump your burst, get a visible stat spike. That is why it is “very usable” even if it is not the BiS ring. You still get a real burst button. You still learn the Special Skill Ring slot. You still stop leaving that slot empty. Right now a Weapon Jump L is trading around 10–13 million NESO — roughly the same as just buying the Rank 2 box itself. So you have two paths: Buy the box at ~13.5M and gamble for Weapon Jump / other A–D rings. Skip the lottery and buy the exact Weapon Jump you need on the market. If your class is LUK (Night Lord, Shadower, Dual Blade, Phantom, Cadena, and similar), Weapon Jump L is the one that matches you. Empty ring slot = free damage you are not taking. RoR and Con Ring can wait. Weapon Jump does not have to.👇👇👇 msu.link/cmn/9H #MSNRingExpedition @MaplestoryU

1/5 MapleStory Universe Population Report Lucid Era vs Will Era Same Ascendant raffle model. Two completely different curves. LUCID: 3,889 → 15,044 (~5.5 months, +287%) WILL: 16,784 → 17,386 (~5 weeks, +3.6%, with a dip to 16,987) The data already asks the question. @MaplestoryU #MSU #MapleStoryN #DearMSNDiary

5/5 LUCID proved this path works. WILL proved the same path stalls when the parameters are wrong. Keep the Lucid-era loop that made the total climb, and a new MapleStory on-chain era is still possible. Park it at a 17K plateau, and you waste a model the data already validated. @MaplestoryU The numbers will keep coming.

4/5 The only question the team needs to answer: Why did a model that worked in the Lucid era stop working in the Will era? The breakpoints are visible — reward tiers flattened, mid-tier players got stuck, extra investment at the high end did not pay extra, and mutually exclusive top pools enabled carry-sharing. People are still bossing. They just no longer feel it is worth putting the next character, the next week, or the next piece of gear into the loop. Total population is the honest metric. Event hype can manufacture noise. The curve cannot lie.

3/5 WILL Era: same model. Growth stalled. After Will entered the raffle on Jul 29, the total locked around 17K. 8/13: 17,153 8/20: 17,230 8/27: 16,987 (net drop) 9/3: 17,386 This is not “still growing, just slower.” It is a plateau — with one week of actual decline. The raffle system did not change. The pool even added layers (Dawning + Will + Chaos). More content. No more population growth. That is not a content shortage. The loop broke.

2/5 LUCID Era: the operating model was proven. From 3,889 players on Feb 5 to 15,044 on Jul 16. Not a one-event spike. Every snapshot for more than five months moved up. What that means: Clear bosses → collect Pure Boss Essence → enter the Ascendant raffle. The loop worked. New players came in. Mid-tier players kept climbing. If this model had been sustained, MapleStory on-chain would have been walking into a new era. That is not a slogan. The curve wrote it.

Same point of view! @MaplestoryU please look at this
The community has shared various takes on Chaos Slime lately, but my main focus is on the reward claim restriction. Disclaimer: These are strictly my personal views and do not represent the broader community. This Chaos difficulty is vastly different from KMS and other servers—a unique MSN version with no previous guides or clears to reference. It is genuinely challenging, and I fully support that direction. Some players think it is too easy, while others find it just right. I respect all perspectives. However, tuning boss difficulty should never simply mean endlessly inflating HP pools. With many more bosses lined up for release, infinite HP scaling will lead to disastrous progression bottlenecks down the road. Difficulty aside, the most widespread complaint is the binary choice in the "Ascendant Tier Raffle" between Hard Will and Chaos Slime. Forcing players who can clear Chaos Slime to pick one over the other is an absurd design choice. Normally, high-CP players wouldn't deliberately carry low-CP players through Hard Will (at most, they might take mid-tier players). Doing so dilutes individual raffle odds and makes the run more demanding. While short-term personal yields might seem okay, as more players adopt this carry model, overall returns across the board will decline. Without this restriction, established static parties would simply continue as normal. Five weeks into Hard Will, clear numbers have stabilized. Taking the Errai server as an example: on August 13, there were 143 raffle participants, 175 tokens, and a 15.4% win rate. Under the either/or restriction, many Chaos Slime runners have started forming "2 high-CP carries + 4 low-CP passengers" setups. On Errai, I estimate roughly 7–8 six-man parties clearing Chaos Slime. Using 7 parties (42 players) as a baseline: • That is 42 top players bowing out of the Hard Will raffle. • These players previously accounted for around 14 parties (~84 tokens). • If 4 parties (24 players) pivot to carrying low-CP players (2 carries + 4 leeches), that creates 12 carry parties. This only accounts for a 2:4 ratio; we could easily see 1:5 setups emerge, introducing massive party-finder friction and toxic carry dynamics. We also risk a scenario where Hard Will EV falls below Normal Will (excluding jackpot drops). Is an ecosystem healthy when players who meet the Hard threshold are pushed toward Normal just to avoid raffle dilution? I strongly believe it isn't. Some might argue that sacrificing baseline EV to gamble on high-tier drops is a valid personal choice. I understand that view—it's simply players making the most rational play under flawed rules. Key Takeaways: • The binary raffle restriction ultimately benefits low-CP players getting carried into Hard Will. • Mid-tier players who can only clear Hard Will and cannot touch Chaos Slime become the biggest losers due to artificial participant dilution. This was my day-one projection on August 20, though the dynamic may shift next week since the devs plan to buff boss HP. The current progression pacing is bizarre. Historically in KMS, V4 was never released alongside Will. Scaling boss HP alongside player progression is reasonable, but endlessly inflating boss HP creates an unhealthy ecosystem—a sentiment shared across low-CP, high-CP, and whale players alike. I genuinely hope the dev team thoroughly tests party buffs before shipping content. For a legacy IP, this feels like an amateur oversight. Nerfing bosses because they were overtuned is common, but mid-cycle buffs because a boss was undertuned? Has this ever happened in any other version? Truly baffling. @MaplestoryU @nexpacetime #MapleStoryN #MSU

Yesterday I heard a big player say: “Who loves this game more than me?!” I just want to say this — My monthly living expenses are only around 20–30k NTD. Sometimes I put in another 10–20k to buy gear. That’s already my absolute limit. I’ve given everything I can. Is that enough to prove I love this game? @MaplestoryU

MSU’s recent decisions are pushing the game in a dangerous direction. After Hard Will launched, a large number of mid-to-high tier players quit. The core issue wasn’t difficulty — it was the **lack of meaningful reward differentiation**. Players who invested more time and resources did not receive correspondingly better returns. Progression itself lost meaning. After the official buyback ended, NXPC continued to drop, accelerating the exodus. The team clearly panicked. They accelerated the release of Chaos Guardian Angel Slime, hoping a higher difficulty tier with exclusive rewards would restore a proper ceiling. The direction itself was correct. However, the current raffle system has produced an unintended outcome. “Eternal Ascendant Chaos Guardian” and “Eternal Ascendant Hard Will” are mutually exclusive — players can only enter one of the two pools each week. In practice, this allows players capable of clearing Chaos to form parties and bring along members who are still at Normal or Easy Will level. Those members then gain access to the higher-tier raffle and receive the rewards, after which they share a portion of those rewards back with the players who carried them. While this arrangement does not violate the rules on paper, it effectively allows lower-progression players to share in rewards designed for higher tiers, while also giving high-tier players an additional source of value. As a result, the value of clearing Hard Will is further diluted, and the intended reward differentiation between difficulty tiers becomes even more blurred. This is not a criticism of any particular playstyle. It is simply pointing out that the system design is softening the very differentiation that higher-difficulty content was meant to create. Furthermore, after top players finally overcame Chaos, the team began discussing whether it “wasn’t hard enough” and whether further adjustments were needed. This is effectively telling players — “You worked hard and succeeded, so we’re going to invalidate your success.” This is not difficulty balancing. This is moving the goalposts. A healthy endgame should set difficulty based on the current player distribution and observe the data for a period of time — not react the moment the first clears happen. The logic of “if it was cleared, it must not have been hard enough” completely destroys players’ trust that effort will be rewarded. If the team continues to be pushed around by whichever voices are loudest at the moment, it will fall into a vicious cycle: Appease group A → group B becomes dissatisfied Appease group B → group A becomes even more dissatisfied The community gradually splits into opposing camps The shared sense of purpose disappears **A shared sense of purpose is the core adhesive of any MMO.** Once players start turning against each other, the social structure of the game begins to collapse. When the meaning of progression is diluted and the community starts fracturing, that negative sentiment will quickly be reflected in the token, forming a death spiral of “worsening sentiment → falling price → more people losing hope → even worse sentiment.” MapleStory has survived for over two decades not by constantly being pushed around by the loudest voices of the moment, but by maintaining relatively stable design principles: layered progression, differentiated rewards, observation periods for difficulty, and adjustments grounded in data. Right now, the team looks more like it is anxiously reacting to emotions than designing with principles. Listening to the community is important. But listening without principles will only end up damaging the game. I hope the team can pause and ask themselves: are you trying to build a long-term ecosystem where players can believe that effort will be rewarded — or a short-term appeasement game that redefines “hard enough” every week, and ultimately pushes both the community and the NXPC into a death spiral? @MaplestoryU

@MaplestoryU

Since Hard Will dropped on 7/29, we’ve seen a lot of players quit and sell off their characters and gear. The vibe on X has been pretty gloomy. But looking at the actual numbers, the total number of active players clearing Lucid keeps climbing. The game isn’t dying — this is just a transfer of ownership. Old blood leaves, new blood steps in. Keep going, MSU!💪 #DearMSNDiary @MaplestoryU

Will clear numbers continue to rise. The level 235 thresholds seem to be limiting growth for mid-tier players in Easy and Normal Will. On 8/13, ARC reached 990, unlocking the +30% boss damage boost — this significantly increased the number of high-tier players clearing Hard Will. The chart below👇 #DearMSNDiary @MaplestoryU
