Good Thursday Morning
Everybody wants loyalty.
But loyalty usually starts where people feel safe enough to be imperfect.
That’s the part a lot of brands miss.
That’s the part we care about.

🔥 @NeoTokyoCode Lore Series: Unpacking the Genius of the Neo Tokyo Membership Brand
🗄️ Today’s Topic: The S1 Identity drop may still be the most legendary free mint in NFT history
🧵 A Lore Compendium Thread
==[ 1: THE SPEAKEASIES ]==
Most free mints asked for a wallet, a little gas & fast fingers
Neo Tokyo asked people to spend nearly a month proving they were paying attention before they even knew exactly what they were trying to mint
It started in September 2021 with fragments scattered across Becker & Ellio’s X feeds, YouTube videos, images, Codex entries & short-lived “speakeasy” websites
A clue might be hiding in a frame of a video
A form might open on a speakeasy site for a few minutes and disappear
One solved riddle could lead to another test instead of a whitelist confirmation
Becker was unusually honest about the design
The games would be intentionally confusing, misleading, unfair & hidden
This would not be a normal 10,000-piece mint
The project was aggressively filtering for people willing to keep watching, keep decoding & keep showing up
That meant weeks of alarms, screenshots, group chats, missed sleep, false paths & the constant suspicion that the next post might contain the fragment that mattered
==[ 2: THE 10-MINUTE MINT ]==
Then on October 1, the Identity mint instructions finally arrived
The upload was initially scheduled for Sunday, then pushed to Monday, October 4
The surviving wallets had been divided into priority groups based on when they had qualified through the speakeasy challenges
As each group went live, Becker posted a spreadsheet containing wallet addresses, mint numbers & Merkle proofs
Once your group was called, you had 10 minutes
And even then, the announcement warned that there were not enough Identities for half the people chosen
Making the whitelist only earned you the right to compete for what remained
I managed to make it into Group 2
I was overseas in a café with my laptop open, nerve-wracked, because a month of staying hyper-vigilant had come down to this one window
There was no polished mint page waiting to make the process easy
You had to pass another test on the site using answers pulled from the earlier clues, take your assigned mint number & proof, then mint directly through the contract
The contract asked you to choose a token ID between 1 & 2,000
If somebody else had already claimed that number, the transaction reverted
So people were scrambling through numbers, trying to find one that was still unminted while the available supply disappeared around them

Won’t stop, but why?
It’s a simple story really
Bears are waking up out of their deep slumber to find a beloved and trusted brand with a 100% community-distributed token at a rock-bottom unthinkable disgusting price
And they know its true value
So they’re hitting the buy button
Crazy part?
This is just the very first wave of hibernation awakenings
☕️ Good to see so many of you back

🔥 The @NeoTokyoCode S1 bid has kept building over the past 14 hours
4 more Citizens changed hands:
▷ #3748 for 0.5447Ξ
▷ #4006 for 0.64Ξ
▷ #1741 for 0.65Ξ
▷ #4005 for 0.79Ξ
2.6247Ξ total (~$6,338)
The sequence matters
S1 floor was ~0.545Ξ around my earlier post
Now it’s 0.65Ξ, up 19.3%, with only 23 Citizens listed and just 8 listings below 1Ξ
Meanwhile $BYTES is up 33.3% over 24h on ~$18.4K volume
▷ S2 sweep
▷ S1 sales stepping higher
▷ S1 floor rising
▷ $BYTES catching a bid
It doesn’t confirm a full rotation yet, but the pieces are starting to move together
The relative value sitting in S1 is getting harder to ignore

👀 Someone just punched through the @NeoTokyoCode S2 floor
OpenSea buyer tackle-pro swept 5 Outer Citizens in a single transaction:
▷ #3694 for 0.1541Ξ
▷ #3721 for 0.1542Ξ
▷ #1789 for 0.1541Ξ
▷ #2938 for 0.1541Ξ
▷ #3350 for 0.1555Ξ
0.7722Ξ total (~$1,937)
The S2 floor now sits at 0.1575Ξ, up 57.5% on OpenSea’s 1-day indicator, with only 24 currently listed
But that wasn’t all he was up to
About 30 minutes before the sweep, the same buyer picked up S1 Citizen #1938 for 0.84Ξ (~$2,107)
🔑 Citizen #1938 Key Traits:
🔹Vehicle: Cyber Bike (1/43)
🔹Apparel: Scavenger 2 (1/67)
🔹Class: Cyberstreet Trader (1/75)
🔹Extra Item: Trash Basket (1/95)
🔹Helm: Motocross Helmet (1/104)
📍Location: Mid Town
🔹Reward Rate: 7
🔸Rarity Rank: 1,118
That’s 1.6122Ξ (~$4,044), spread across 6 Citizens in about half an hour
S2 floor sweep + a high-yield S1

Ahead of PEPE, PENGU, SOL, ZEC, AERO, AVAX, TAO & the rest of this field
Only HYPE performed better over the same window
One strong week doesn’t establish a trend
Especially in a thinner market
But has to be said it’s impressive that $BYTES just outperformed 13 of the these 14 key assets

TLDR: BYTES have the greatest tokenomics ever devised
👀 I built the @NeoTokyoCode $BYTES dashboard I always wanted & the data made a stronger case than I expected
I set out to build one place where I could understand BYTES emissions, supply, staking, holders & market cap without piecing the story together from old dashboards and scattered records
With our @GridPhantoms AI Agent Sakura helping me interrogate contracts, reconstruct history & reconcile data across Ethereum & Avalanche, the project became something more
The deeper we dug, the more I understood why BYTES is still here & why Grid Phantoms chose to build around it
One stat that stopped me:
▷ BYTES 2.0 began with configured emissions of 11,000 BYTES/day
▷ Today, the contracts are configured for approximately 744 BYTES/day
▷ That’s a 93.2% reduction in new daily reward inventory
Today’s stream is roughly one-fifteenth of the Genesis rate
Thus the market has dramatically less new reward inventory to potentially absorb each day
Hats off to the original Neo Tokyo tokenomics team
The decay structure gave the economy time
3 years into BYTES 2.0 and it has reached another market cycle carrying a much lighter emissions burden
Imagine when the market flips bullish, buy pressure returns & emissions sell pressure has all but vanished
That’s not a market promise, but enough to make you think
The other discoveries were just as impressive:
▷ 8,808 unique positive-balance wallets across Ethereum & Avalanche
▷ 3,318 identified staking participants
▷ 1.85M BYTES in the staking contract, equal to 35.5% of supply
▷ 68.7% of the S1 Citizen collection staked
▷ 44.8% of the S2 collection staked
▷ 100% allocated to the community, with no team allocation or VC unlocks
▷ An onchain-verified market cap well above $1 million
The market-cap context surprised me
CoinMarketCap’s broader market snapshot showed the $1 million line around rank 1,863 in a universe of millions of tracked cryptocurrencies
Impressive that BYTES, when current market cap is onchain-verified, ends up among the top 2,000 tokens
In fact if CoinMarketCap’s BYTES market cap was onchain-tracked, the token would be currently ranked around #1738
Especially notable for an NFT community utility token with roots in 2021
The new Terminal lets you inspect:
▷ Configured & modeled emissions
▷ Historical emissions decay
▷ Projected future issuance
▷ Canonical & bridged supply
▷ Cross-chain holders
▷ Citizen staking participation
▷ Pending rewards
▷ Spot price & market cap
▷ Source blocks, formulas & caveats
Every metric is marked as Observed, Calculated or Projected so you can distinguish contract facts from math & assumptions
The spot valuation remains liquidity-sensitive, so this is not about making BYTES look bigger than it is
It’s about making the economy easier to understand & every headline number easier to verify
I started this because I wanted a better dashboard
I finished it with a deeper appreciation for how patiently BYTES was designed, how broadly it was distributed & how much of the community is still participating
☑️ Still here
☑️ Still held
☑️ Still staked
☑️ Still building
