Maybe I'm better off staying single. A few weeks ago, I matched with a woman who seemed amazing. We talked every single day for almost a month. She was funny, easy to talk to, and we seemed to agree on almost everything. By the time we finally planned our first date, I was genuinely excited. We met at a small restaurant halfway between our cities. Dinner was great. We laughed, shared stories, and stayed there talking until the staff started cleaning around us. When the check came, I paid without even thinking about it. After dinner, we walked around for a while before I drove her back to her car. Before she got out, she smiled and said, "Tonight was even better than I expected." I drove home thinking I'd finally met someone worth getting to know. The next morning... Silence. Hours turned into an entire day. Then I noticed she'd unfollowed me everywhere. Confused, I sent one last message asking if everything was okay. She actually replied. She said she'd enjoyed meeting me... But she didn't think we were compatible. I asked what had changed. Her answer genuinely surprised me. She said that if I had been "serious" about her, I would've brought flowers, planned a more expensive place, opened every door, and surprised her with a small gift at the end of the night. According to her, those things showed effort. Without them, she assumed I wasn't interested enough. I just stared at my phone for a minute. Not because I was angry... But because we'd spent four incredible hours laughing together, and somehow none of that mattered. The conversation. The chemistry. The way we both forgot to check our phones. It all got outweighed by a checklist I didn't even know existed. I wished her the best and left it there. Maybe I'm getting old... But I still believe the right person remembers how you made them feel—not how many boxes you managed to tick on a first date.
