I’m actually so intrigued by Heartbeat’s storyline. Since it’s an original story, the fantasy + noir + romcom genre really caught my interest 😄 Like idk if we’ve had this kind of genre combination before. And I’m curious to see how they’re gonna mix fantasy, noir and romcom in this drama. From the first unofficial post about this drama, it was reported that the story involves Hong Sarang, a heart surgeon with psychometric abilities, and Cha Shinjo, a respectable businessman with dark rumours surrounding him (rumoured to be a nightclub and hotel owner). And if we’ve been following the unofficial reports closely, Nam Joohyuk is apparently gonna play dual characters (Seo Taebom and Cha Shinjo). Then there’s this recent article by Top Star News that mentioned Cha Shinjo’s character in passing. Idk where the reporter got the info from or if it’s just something she added herself, but the article was actually about an event NJH attended and towards the end she wrote: “Meanwhile, he has been cast as Cha Shinjo in the tvN drama Heartbeat, signaling his return to television. Heartbeat centers on a story unfolding through relationships intertwined between humans and special beings. Nam Joohyuk’s character, Cha Shinjo, is introduced as a central figure who drives the narrative, raising anticipation.” 특별한 존재들 literally means “special beings” or “special existences.” I think this is the first time we’ve come across this term when talking about Heartbeat. But it doesn’t specifically mean supernatural beings, vampires, ghosts or nonhuman creatures. And that’s what makes me even more curious lol. Like are both of them gonna be some kind of special beings now? 😆 And then I remember something Sohee said during her Cine21 interview: “I always think that being an actor is a profession where you have to change into different clothes every time, and whatever clothes they are, you have to pull them off well. I wanted to show the various colors of Han Sohee. If I wanted to show a rough Han Sohee in Project Y, this film contains sides of me that I haven’t shown until now. Since I’ve appeared in many genre films recently, you might feel that the gap is quite big, but I’m trying various things, even just to find out which clothes suit me better. If I’ve shown a dark side once, then next I want to show a slightly brighter side, and if I’ve played a realistic role with my feet on the ground, then after that I also want to show a role that floats through the sky.” Of course, it’s probably just a figure of speech since she was talking about the variety of roles she wants to portray, not specifically about Heartbeat. But still, I find it interesting that it kinda matches the fantasy story she’s gonna be in next, especially after The Intern which is more of a realistic story. Ahh I really hope this is gonna be an interesting drama ☺️

Finally, we got something more solid about Heartbeat 😊 Previously, most of the updates I shared came from unofficial sources, except for CJ ENM’s sponsorship listing. Today (6 Nov), Samsung Securities released a report on Studio Dragon, and Heartbeat is included in its 2027 drama production lineup! It’s listed as a tvN Sat-Sun drama scheduled for 2027, with Nam Joohyuk and Han Sohee as the leads, Lee Sieun as the writer and Yoon Jongho as the director 🩷
