"The excuse for those tariffs shifts every day. The only constant in this unjustified and unjustifiable trade war seems to be President Trump's talks of annexing our country through economic coercion," says Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly on ongoing Canada-U.S. trade war.

Why do Trump and Musk want to cut programs that are important to the working class of this country?

This is as direct a threat to Canada’s sovereignty as one could imagine, an illegal one at that (See UN Charter). Canada will never accept this direct threat of aggression and economic force as “normal”.
Trump: When you take away that artificial line that looks like it was done with a ruler— and that’s what it was. Some guy sat there years ago and they said RAH. When you take away that and you look at that beautiful formation of Canada and the United States… And then if you add Greenland.. that’s pretty good

Canada and the Netherlands have shared a great friendship for 80 years, since the liberation of the Netherlands by Canadian soldiers in 1945. And Ottawa, the home of the Canadian Tulip Festival, and the birthplace of Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet, has been an important part of that relationship. It was a pleasure to welcome Her Excellency Margriet Vonno, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, to City Hall. With all that's happening in the world right now, it's an opportune time to showcase that real friends treat each other with respect and gratitude.

60 years ago today, on march 7th 1965, police brutally attacked hundreds of civil rights activists during a march in Selma, Alabama, now known as Bloody Sunday.
—An estimated 500-600 Civil Rights marchers headed southeast out of Selma on U.S. Highway 80. The march was led by John Lewis of SNCC and the Reverend Hosea Williams of SCLC.
The Selma to Montgomery marches were organized to demonstrate the desire of African-American citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
The protest was on track until the marchers crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where they encountered a wall of state troopers and county posse waiting for them on the other side.
County sheriff Jim Clark had issued an order for all white men in Dallas County over the age of 21 to report to the courthouse that morning to be deputized.
Officer John Cloud told the demonstrators to disband at once and go home. Rev. Williams tried to speak to the officer, but Cloud informed him there was nothing to discuss.
Seconds later, the troopers began shoving the demonstrators, knocking many to the ground and beating them with nightsticks. Another detachment of troopers fired tear gas, and mounted troopers charged the crowd on horseback.
AFTERMATH:
After the march, President Johnson issued an immediate statement "deploring the brutality with which a number of Negro citizens of Alabama were treated". He also promised to send a voting rights bill to Congress that week, although it took him until March 15.
LEGACY:
🖤In 1996 the 54-mile Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail was designated and is preserved by the National Park Service.
🖤In February 2015 both houses of Congress voted for a resolution to award Congressional Gold Medals to the "foot soldiers" of the Selma campaign. In a later ceremony, two dozen individuals in Selma received certificates.
Barack Obama signed the resolution in law on March 7. The award ceremony officially took place on February 24, 2016, at the US Capitol. Surviving marchers John Lewis and Frederick Reese accepted medals on behalf of the Selma marchers.

All true. However, the 51st state buffoonery is what is prompting the fury. When a democracy-hating Putin-loving madman threatens to annex your country, you pay attention.
It’s hard to overstate how big of a deal the tariffs are in Canada. The first 12 minutes of the @CBCNews national news were tariff stories. It’s all over local radio, and on the lips of people I’ve met in Toronto this evening. Canada is FURIOUS at the US right now.
