Last week saw the premier of the short film "Unauthorised Absence". This film and its messages couldn't be more important. The lived reality of so many parents - when their children are struggling and their lives are in turmoil - is that they are met with judgement. 1/馃У

7/ And I say it all as a parent, who has been navigating the toughest of journeys for four years, advovating for my child through the darkest of days, and finding that so many approaches and systems in England simply make everything harder.

8/ The culture of presenteeism in England's schools isn't working. The pressure on parents, when their children are struggling, isn't helping. The insistance on "medical evidence" isn't helping. The parent-blaming isn't helping. The penalty notices aren't helping...

Back in 1996, many people were listening to Britpop, The Fugees and The Spice Girls. For a brief spell, some people were listening to Babylon Zoo. But, much to the annoyance of my uni housemates, I was mostly listening to this. 30 years on, it's still a gem. @PaulHeatonSolo

Here in the UK, we're now in the eighth school year since the start of the pandemic. We are also in the midst of the thirteenth wave of Covid-19. Illness... Harm... Change... Disruption... It's never stopped. 馃У

17/ My four children started this term in good health. One daughter is in primary school, two are in secondary and my son has just gone to university. Over the last month, all have fallen ill. As have many of their classmates and teachers. It wasn't always like this.

18/ It shouldn't be like this. Schools should be about developing life chances. But we're playing roulette with everyone's life chances, still, after all these years. END. @_CatintheHat @1goodtern @CleanAir4KidsUK @LucyMPowell
