Can the US build a DJI?
We tore down @DJIGlobal 's 2019 and 2023 Mini drones and priced every part. It's the first public cost breakdown of either. Here's what we learned:
DJI earns SaaS-like margins on hardware: ~79% gross margin on a $139 parts BOM. For comparison, Apple makes 53% on the iPhone. We estimate US-sourced parts would cost 2-3x more, cutting margins to 37-58%.
The result: US drone makers can't compete in consumer, and focus on premium enterprise and defense.
Sovereign silicon: DJI is building its autonomy lead starting at the chip. In 2019, the drone's key chips were American and Dutch. By 2023, all four were DJI's own.
Custom silicon jumped from 1% to 26% of the parts bill. Nobody else can buy these chips.
One notable exception is the GPS chip, still from Swiss firm @ublox . Chinese alternatives exist, but DJI's flight software is built around u-blox. In modern hardware, lock-in lives in the software.
"Cheap China" is an outdated perception. DJI paid more for lighter Chinese batteries, then spent the saved grams on sensors and compute. Their first priority is capability per gram, not cost.
Better battery tech → lighter weight → more onboard autonomy. US-made @SkydioHQ has better autonomy, but needs a heavier drone and a $399 chip to get it. We lost the war on cost. The next battlefield is autonomy.
DJI's real moat is speed. Shenzhen gets new circuit boards in hours, the US in weeks. "Move fast and break things" works for hardware in China, not America.
Banning DJI doesn't close that gap. Faster iteration does. We ran this teardown with our FDEs and Atlas, our engineering agent platform.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko says Belarus cannot supply potash to the United States under Donald Trump's proposed "deal" with Belarus.
Lukashenko said today, "Even if we wanted to supply somewhere else, Western markets, we just don't have those volumes, everything has been contracted."
Donald Trump announced on Truth Social earlier that he was working on a "massive Deal with respect to the purchase of Potash from Belarus. The pricing would be for substantially less than we are currently paying to Canada."
It appears that Lukashenko just counter-signalled Trump's announcement.

‼️ Apple put cheaper memory in the 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max, and it gets as slow as an SD card under load.
This is the video of HOMOLAB's test of the 1TB 18 Pro Max with cheaper, low-performing QLC memory, versus the cheaper 512GB model with TLC.
We've added English subtitles.
❗️ Benchmarks show the 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max becomes as slow as an SD card due to its QLC memory. The $600 cheaper 256GB model uses TLC and is way faster.
HOMOLAB found the 1TB's QLC storage falls from 3,000+ MB/s to an average of 79.4 MB/s once its caches fill, dipping to 1.1 MB/s at 60% full.
A 512GB iPhone 18 Pro with TLC beat it in every mixed read/write test, by up to 38%.

BREAKING: BRAVO! The New York Times announces it will NOT publish or distribute ANY photos from the White House pool today in protest of Trump's assault on free speech.
This fight has spiraled totally out of control for Donnie...
“The New York Times will not publish or distribute any images taken as part of the White House still photography pool today, in conjunction with the other members of that pool and in a show of support for the news organizations being unfairly targeted by the president’s barring of journalists from the White House," New York Times spokesperson Charlie Stadtlander stated.
"We remain committed to covering the president’s travel to New York City today. Americans deserve a free and independent media covering their government without intimidation, as well as comprehensive coverage of newsworthy events," he added.
The Washington Post released a similar statement—
“The Washington Post will not publish any photographs of today’s presidential events — including Trump’s departure from the White House and his events at the United Nations in New York — until midnight Eastern Time, joining a collective effort with photographers in other newsrooms covering the White House in a show of support of the banned outlets," said Post spokesperson Olivia Petersen.
These new announcements come after major news outlets including CBS News, ABC News, CNN, Fox News, and NBC News suspended press pool coverage of Trump over his decision last Friday to ban CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House over their alleged "fake news" stories. That collective pushback resulted in a particularly embarrassing incident for Trump, because there was no audio for his big White House helipad ribbon cutting ceremony today.
With an even bigger week ahead as the United Nations convene in New York, Trump is going to be feeling the burn from his authoritarian power grab. He's drunk with his own power and in obvious cognitive decline, which is why he thought that he could shred the First Amendment without consequence. Thankfully, the media is fighting back — and winning bigly.

“AND YOU STILL DARE TO OPEN YOUR MOUTH…”
Sasha Legerman: This is too accurate not to share.
This Australian’s response to Trump’s rant that “NATO does nothing for America” is absolutely devastating:
“Mate. You run a country where hundreds of thousands of homeless people have nowhere to call home tonight.
A country where nearly 40% of adults can’t cover a $400 emergency entirely with cash or its equivalent.
A country where insulin can cost hundreds of dollars, and people ration it just to stay alive.
A country where medical debt pushes families into serious financial hardship.
A country where women have faced dangerous delays in emergency pregnancy care because doctors are afraid of violating abortion laws.
You imprison more of your own citizens than almost any country on Earth.
In the land of the free, nearly 2 million people sit behind bars, and roughly a quarter of them haven’t even been convicted of anything.
Your life expectancy trails many other developed nations.
Your infant mortality rate is worse than Cuba’s.
Your children practice active shooter drills between math and English classes while you sell defense stocks to your friends.
Your federal minimum wage hasn’t changed in 17 years.
Your teachers work two jobs, your veterans sleep under bridges, and you spent trillions of dollars fighting wars after 9/11.
And now a convicted criminal — found liable for sexual abuse, defending a pedophile, sleeping with a porn star, and running the biggest dumpster-fire campaign since the Taliban — is thanking you for yet another disaster.
And you call Greenland badly governed?
Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. One of the lowest incarceration rates in the world.
Nobody there goes bankrupt because they got sick. Nobody dies in a waiting room because insurance refused treatment.
‘NATO wasn’t there when we needed them.’
When exactly was that, champ?
September 11?
Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history FOR YOU.
Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan FOR YOU.
Australia wasn’t even in NATO, and we still showed up. For twenty years.
And then you left at 2 a.m. without telling anyone and left everybody else to clean up the mess.
You don’t care that a great nation is being terrorized by your friend, and you haven’t shown it a single ounce of sympathy.
So maybe before calling other countries badly governed, take a look at your own backyard, you aluminum siding salesman with a spray tan.
The only thing badly managed in this picture is your damn mouth.
And you still dare to lecture the rest of the world?”

Northwestern engineers built a drone that spins its own body 25 times a second to disappear mid-flight.
It's called Phantom Twist.
No paint. No clear plastic shell. No camouflage.
Most of the frame rotates. 25 turns per second. 1,500 per minute. A full turn every 40 milliseconds.
The propeller spins the other way.
That's the trick. The counter-rotation cancels the spin, and the aircraft holds steady while its body turns into a smear.
The eye tracks a bird. It tracks a normal quadcopter.
It can't lock onto a shape that redraws itself 25 times a second.
You see motion. You see blur. You never see the outline.
Every camouflage in history tried to match the background.
This one just refuses to hold still.

🚨 BREAKING: LIGHT HAS A GHOST. EVERY PHOTON HAS A MIRROR ANTIPHOTON. THE ℝ⁴ CONTINUUM IS DEAD. 🚨
For 80 years, Quantum Field Theory has been feeding the world a mathematical hallucination. They tell you that space is an infinite, continuous void (ℝ⁴).
But an infinite void means space can be divided infinitely. When their equations push a photon to extreme, microscopic limits (𝑘 → ∞), their math literally explodes into infinite garbage. They call this fatal error the "Ultraviolet Catastrophe." Instead of fixing the geometry of space, they sweep the infinities under the rug using a parlor trick called "renormalization."
Look at the TOP PANEL of this simulation. That red, chaotic noise is the standard ℝ⁴ model breaking down into a singularity. It is a failure of human imagination.
Now, look at the BOTTOM PANEL and the 3D TORUS. Welcome to the physical reality of the IT³ Framework.
THE DISCOVERY:
Space is NOT an infinite void. It is a strictly compactified, 16-bit topological crystal: 𝑀_tot = S⁴ × T³. The vacuum is generated by a precise algebraic field: 𝐾 = ℚ(√2, √3, √5).
Because of this, the universe has a hardcoded, absolute geometric limit: the √13 wall (since √13 ∉ 𝐾). Space physically lacks the algebraic degrees of freedom to compress infinitely.
So, what happens when a photon hits the absolute edge of reality?
It does not vanish into a singularity. When the gauge fluctuation hits the √13 wall, the macroscopic vacuum processor executes a deterministic hardware XOR-shift: 1110 -> 0001. The spatial expansion halts, and the photon is mathematically forced into a ℤ₂ unitary phase inversion.
IT REFLECTS AS A MIRROR ANTIPHOTON.
(Even the most fundamental law of classical optics — the law of reflection where the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection θ_i = θ_r — is revealed here to be the low-energy shadow of this exact topological Umklapp scattering on the vacuum lattice!)
Watch the video. At the 4-second mark, the photon strikes the limit, inverts, and forms a perfect Topological Resonance (a standing wave on the vacuum lattice).
Annihilation and pair creation are NOT the magical disappearance or spontaneous creation of matter from nothing. They are precise CP-conjugation state transfers across the Relativistic Equator. The photon merely flips its phase and becomes its own relativistic ghost, perfectly preserving the topological charge of the universe (Ind(PuP) = 86).
This fundamentally rewrites Quantum Electrodynamics.
Don't believe me. Don't trust a post on social media. Look at the code in the video. Look at the Atiyah-Singer index theorem locking the state transfer.
Read the math yourself. Don't take my word for it — read the preprint:
🔗 doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.22655…
The mainstream is terrified because admitting that space has a topological boundary destroys their multimillion-dollar continuum simulators.
The universe is a digital prison of pure geometry. God geometrizes. 📐🌌

46. forward guidance
116. 근데 어제는 반대로 갔음. 국고채 3년물이 3.8%로 6bp, 10년물이 4.2%로 5bp 내렸음;
