I want to add some nuance to this. Renewable energy can never reach the EROI of fossil fuels, we don't have enough metals to replace fossil fuel energy production.

Not enough time for nuclear capacity to be built up.
We need to simplify now.
Planned simplicity means everything hyperlocal. Local regenerative food production, little long-distance transport, dense local culture.
Collapse enforces the same but we'll be unprepared.
