i'm sure you're all better than me at this but just some of what we've seen if it helps - they're not going to stop. it's going to get increasingly sophisticated and they're going to go after every surface of your system and all of your employees any old projects you've long forgotten about will be found and used against you the only reason we're surviving is because we have agents going 24/7. we're still barely sleeping good luck, sorry you're dealing with this, but really it's a collective problem we're all facing together

Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.

This is reads like a HR article xitter.cf/camirusso/status/21130…
this polymarket article is such a weird non-story. throughout the entire article it's one bombshell-seeming revelation after another, only to be quickly backtracked one paragraph later. - @shayne_coplan while paying himself no salary, used company money to pay for basic expenses, and then at his own initiative paid that money back - is now in the process of scaling his company as it's become one of the few crypto businesses to break into the mainstream, by bringing senior hires etc. - running a prediction market has been difficult from a regulatory perspective in the US (shocker) surprised at the private jets and investor pressure clickbait headline from bloomberg

🤯 Demis and Shane’s timeline was 2035 at first. So this is a huge update
SITUATION DETECTED: Demis Hassabis told the WSJ that his AGI timelines have shortened from three to five years away to within the next two to three years.

Adversarial Diffusion - adopt AI or die
Vulnerabilities in a programming language that supports much of the internet are so severe that European and British authorities recommend websites temporarily go offline until they can be fixed. nbcnews.com/tech/security/cr…

Saving grace is that countries with weaker cybersecurity already use more paper (Japan still uses faxes and rubber sigils). They never fully trusted the machines anyway.
I don't know whether this is true but I do think everyone ought to seriously consider printing paper records for everything important. We need tamperproof logs of everything ASAP in case a lot of critical systems go offline for a period of time. Better to have and not need: the cost of taking some time and printing some stuff out is very little and the worst case scenario is you feel silly you did it. But if something goes really wrong you will be glad you prepared.

This has been my take for ages. I think the labs still need forward deployed engineers though, PANW and other enterprise security firms will serve as harnesses for the frontier firms.
There is no way on earth Palo Alto networks will protect me from an AGI hacker. I expect the labs to start. to launching cybersecurity products soon. There’s a lot of synergy there because they get to make the threat and the solution at the same time. Everyone will have to pay protection money.

Incredible. This gets around skilled labor shortage and supply chain issues.

For the uninitiated - eMudhra is an Indian digital cert provider - it’s how your browser can tell for sure the website it’s visiting belongs to the person it’s supposed - they used relationships (bribery may have been involved) to become the provider to Indian government bodies - same method + social proof to become provider to Indian state owned banks and companies - ditto to South Asian and Middle Eastern banks and institutions - that social proof to become one of the trusted authorities to the global system built into every browser - they were supposed to passwords 116 digits long, ie hard to guess. - they used passwords of up to 3 digits long (one was simply “4”) - the certs which were compromised have been around for 18 months - why? - incompetence - these kinds of companies are usually conduits to channel political money from state owned companies into the hands of political parties - they rely on the security provided by the state, the ability to arrest people, rather than cryptography - expect this to be true OF ALL internet infrastructure in any part of the developing world - anything not run by big tech in those countries is suspect
‼️ BREAKING: The private keys of 8 certificates from Indian certificate authority eMudhra were compromised, Mozilla says. Firefox blocked them within 3 hours. Each key should be a 116-digit number, but one was just 4. Anyone can guess them and forge HTTPS certs for any website.

TLDR: ChatGPT discovers way of potentially preventing Alzheimer’s after 32 minutes of literature search. We will only know for sure in 2036. Check back then!
GPT-Rosalind surfaced a new lead for drug discovery: could restoring cholesterol transport protect neurons from degeneration? DCTN1 is a gene linked to Perry syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. In mouse-brain data, disrupting it increased expression of genes involved in making cholesterol. GPT-Rosalind suggested a possible explanation: cholesterol may not be reaching where neurons need it. That gives scientists a specific mechanism to test and, if confirmed, a direction for developing new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders. With @perturbai_tx and @scrippsresearch, a team of thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents worked in parallel, connecting gene-expression results from millions of mouse brain cells with scientific literature in just 32 minutes. We’re now expanding this collaboration to identify new drug targets. openai.com/index/scaling-ai-…
