HISTORICAL SPEECH BY THE VICE CHAIRMAN OF THE PATRIOTIC LEAGUE OF UGANDA (PLU)
Representing General Muhoozi Kainerugaba (MK)
Occasion: Thanksgiving and Endorsement Function
Venue: Bwamba Town Council, Bundibugyo District
Organiser: Hon. Harriet Ntabazi, Member of Parliament and State Minister for Lands
THEME: HONOURING OUR HISTORY, PROTECTING PEACE, AND BUILDING UGANDA'S FUTURE
The Chief Host, Hon. Harriet Ntabazi; distinguished leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM); leaders and members of PLU; religious and cultural leaders; elders, women, youth, and the people of Bundibugyo; ladies and gentlemen.
Good evening!
It is a great honour to stand before you today as the Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, representing General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, popularly known as MK, at this important thanksgiving and endorsement function.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba was expected to be our Chief Guest today. However, due to his demanding schedule and other pressing commitments, he has been unable to attend. I therefore bring you greetings and represent him at this important occasion.
First, I thank Hon. Harriet Ntabazi for organising this gathering and appreciate the people of Bundibugyo for welcoming us. I also recognise the local leaders, community representatives, volunteers, and everyone who contributed their time and resources to make this function possible.
Today is not merely a gathering; it is an opportunity to reflect on our history, appreciate the value of peace, and discuss the future we want for Uganda.
1. BUNDIBUGYO: A DISTRICT WITH A RICH HISTORY
Ladies and gentlemen, whenever we discuss Uganda's political history, we must recognise the contributions and experiences of communities across the country, including the people of Bundibugyo.
Uganda experienced years of political instability before the National Resistance Army (NRA) struggle of 1981–1986 culminated in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government taking power in January 1986.
The people of Bundibugyo and the wider Rwenzori region have their own distinctive histories and experiences of conflict, resilience, and the continuing pursuit of peace and development. We should honour the experiences of ordinary Ugandans who endured difficult times and recognise the importance of rebuilding communities and strengthening national unity.
The lesson we draw from our history is that peace must never be taken for granted, and every generation has a responsibility to protect it.
Today, Bundibugyo has opportunities to advance through agriculture, tourism, education, improved healthcare, infrastructure, and investment. Our responsibility as leaders is to ensure that these opportunities translate into better livelihoods for our people, particularly women and young people.
2. RECOGNISING LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE
We recognise President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM leadership for their role in Uganda's political journey since 1986. We also congratulate Hon. Harriet Ntabazi on the responsibilities entrusted to her as State Minister for Lands.
Hon. Harriet, we appreciate your service and your decision to bring leaders and citizens together for this occasion. We encourage you to continue engaging the people of Bundibugyo and supporting initiatives that address their development priorities.
Leadership is not simply about holding office; it is about serving people, listening to their concerns, and delivering results.
To the people of Bundibugyo, continue working with your leaders, expressing your concerns peacefully, and participating in the development of your communities.
3. REPRESENTING MK AND DISCUSSING UGANDA'S FUTURE
My brothers and sisters,
I am here representing General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, popularly known as MK, whose name has become part of Uganda's national political discussion through the activities of the Patriotic League of Uganda.
