This week I conducted a two-day specialist training programme on #whistleblowing for the Internal Control Department of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). The training was supported by the European Union Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine.

Congratulations to all of the civil society organisations who worked so hard for an effective EU Directive to protect #whistleblowers. This will result in a new era of national laws recognising the important role of recipients in protecting whistleblowers AND handling concerns

"It is vital that EU #whistleblower legislation makes it easier [not harder!] for citizens to come forward & report, without fear of negative repercussions for their career, economic status or private life." bit.ly/2VNiBRp

Well at least the UK is on the right side of this one! "The UK has concerns about the proportionality of this measure, and has indicated its preference for providing #whistleblowers a choice of reporting channels to support their disclosure" bit.ly/2IYg8lg

Mandatory internal reporting runs contrary to the ECtHR jurisprudence and natural instinct of citizens to report directly to authorities. This disproportionate restriction of workers' art.10 rights would undermine the ability of authorities to prevent harm #whistleEU

#Whistleblowers across the #EU could soon be protected from retaliation & bullying but tomorrow @EUCouncil may decide to bureaucratically pick apart the future law to remove key issues like #TaxEvasion, #CorporateCheating & #Nuclear Safety. So contact your #Justice Ministry now!
