NOBODY TALKS ABOUT…
the assistant coach who shows up every day, does all the little things, and never gets the credit.
Every great program has one. 👏

Are we helping kids… or teaching them to run from hard things?
I see this all the time in schools.
A student has a problem with a teacher, coach, classmate, or situation, and too often the first response is to remove the problem.
Switch the class.
Quit the team.
Avoid the conversation.
Have the parent step in and fix it.
I understand the instinct. We don’t want to see our kids struggle.
But Dr. Becky Kennedy said something powerful:
“The more you optimize for happiness in childhood, the more you actually wire for anxiety in adulthood.”
Kids need to learn that disappointment is survivable.
Conflict is survivable.
Failure is survivable.
Being uncomfortable is survivable.
Sometimes the best thing we can do for kids isn’t remove the hard thing.
It’s help them learn how to walk through it.

The next great Head Coach is an assistant on someone’s staff right this very moment. (Any sport)
Head Coaches if you feel they can do 80% of the job you can do, give them an opportunity to fail w/ more responsibility. Their desire is like yours once was. They will seek opportunity

Kirby Smart believes great leaders of any kind must accept 3 costs:
1. Making hard decisions that negatively impact people you care about
2. Being disliked despite attempts to do the best for the most
3. You'll be misunderstood

Kids who receive good parenting go on to become mentally strong athletes. As a parent, you lay the foundation for your child’s mindset and character. If you want your children to succeed in sports and in life, you need to provide them with love, support, and discipline.

If you’re a varsity high school coach, you should know what’s coming up in your program. I start tracking kids around 7th grade and definitely know the 8th graders. Knowing your younger talent and what’s coming the next few years is a big part of building a successful program.

While filming the SEINFELD episode "The Abstinence", Jerry hadn't seen what Michael Richards's constant cigar smoking makeup looked like. Combined with Richards never going full force during rehearsals, and only seeing his real performance during the live taping, Jerry couldn't help but break character 😂

Two things can be true at once.
1) Things are way too expensive right now. Food, gas, groceries- all high.
2) The Gen Zers bitching about it all also get a daily iced coffee, wear Alo apparel, and don’t know what it means to live within their means.
