Today, Our team visited the National TB and Leprosy Programme (NTLP) offices to demonstrate Ocular Tool to the Assistant Commissioner and his colleagues. We showed how Ocular pairs a standard microscope with AI to support efficient slide reading at the point of care, right where diagnosis happens. The team answered questions on accuracy, workflow fit, and what it would take to use the tool in routine TB diagnostics. Thanks to the NTLP leadership and team for their time, openness, enlightment and commitment to ending TB in Uganda. We look forward to the next steps together. Our team lead, @RoseNakasikiire , represented @AI_HealthLabMak at the Medical Artificial Intelligence Conference (MAIC) 2026 in Chongqing, China, presenting "Advancing Practical and Responsible AI for Health in Resource-Limited Settings: A Case for Disease Diagnostics." The invitation reflects the Lab's growing role in shaping how AI-powered diagnostics get built for and with low-resource health systems. @RoseNakasikiire was one of a select group of senior international experts invited, recognized for her leadership of the ITU/WHO/WIPO GI-AI4H Topic Group and her work on mobile microscopy and diagnostic AI grounded in the realities of under-resourced settings. The visit included a tour of Chongqing University- @CQU1929 Fuling Hospital's rural primary-care AI systems, followed by high-level plenary sessions on AI-enabled diagnostics. For us, these conversations matter because they keep AI in health tethered to what's usable on the ground. #AIFORGLOBALGOALS

Last Friday, we had the team from Japan International Cooperation Agency (@jica_direct_en ) stop by the lab. Led by our own Dr. @RoseNakasikiire ,we walked them through @Ocular_Project our tool built to make malaria, tuberculosis, and cervical cancer diagnosis more accessible in low-resource settings across Uganda. Visits like this matter. @jica_direct_en has been a steady backer of Uganda’s tech growth through skills development and technology transfer. Showing them what’s being built on the ground, in a lab, in Kampala, is how that support turns into real traction for homegrown AI. #AIFORGLOBALGOALS

The @Ocular_Project Team went upcountry to five health facilities in Southern Uganda, and the big question was still, "Does our tool actually work for the people who'll be using it?" The Southern leg took the team to Buwenge Health Centre IV, Nakaseke General Hospital, Komamboga Health Centre IV, Semuto Health Centre IV and Walukuba Health Centre IV. They sat with clinicians, watched how things worked, and listened to what it would really take for the tool to be adopted. Check us out: ocular-project.com makerereaihealthlab.com #AIforGlobalGoals
