I'm looking for beta testers for RootSketch, a new site for preserving family history. You upload old letters, journals, photos, and documents. It transcribes them, keeps them organized, and helps turn them into life sketches of your ancestors. It's free while we test. Try it at rootsketch.com and tell me what works and what's confusing. Reply or DM me if you're in!

Sydney Sweeney votes in California! 😆 BRILLIANT ad by the Prop 39 campaign. Common sense is on the ballot in this election—and not just in the governor's race. YES on Voter ID!

A new study suggests one blood sign of ALS may show up years before diagnosis. The marker is neurofilament light chain, or NfL, a protein released when nerve fibers are damaged. Researchers from the US, Denmark and Switzerland compared stored blood samples from people in Denmark's EPIC study who later developed ALS with samples from matched controls. Samples were collected up to 23 years before diagnosis. NfL levels were elevated up to about 15 years before diagnosis, and the gap grew closer to diagnosis. The researchers wrote that this suggests "a substantially longer presymptomatic phase … than generally appreciated." It is not a diagnostic test. The team says "population-wide screening for NfL levels as an ALS screen is likely premature." But it could help find at-risk people earlier for trials and prevention research. My first ALS symptoms started around January 2018, and I was diagnosed late that year. The study is in the Annals of Neurology. Elon Musk took the stage at X Takeover at Giga Texas for a full conversation with Tesla Owners Silicon Valley. The title: "What Comes Next for Humanity." Elon walks out at about the 14 minute mark, in front of a crowd of more than 2,000 people. He opens by looking back at how close Tesla came to not surviving in 2008 and again in 2018. From there it covers what the description calls "AI abundance and existential risk" and "the next chapter of space exploration." He talks about Starship, Optimus, chips and AI. This was his third X Takeover in a row. Watch the replay: youtube.com/live/tUHHZsN7tPM @elonmusk @teslaownersSV

Walter Isaacson sits down with Elon Musk for the season debut of The Builders. It is a wide ranging conversation about AI, robots and the future. The title says it all: "Humans Won't Be in Control" when AI becomes smarter than us. They talk about why AI must be truth seeking and curious, and how to make it safer for humanity. Isaacson also asks about DOGE regrets and whether robots can pay down America's national debt. Plus simulation theory, finding purpose in a world without jobs, and his legacy: Mars, energy and AI. About 37 minutes, and worth every one. youtu.be/AQnwQHMnCrE @elonmusk @WalterIsaacson @kscope_nyc

Ellie in Space just posted a Neuralink panel she was part of with Tesla Owners Silicon Valley. Her title: "Fewer Than 30 People Have Neuralink. I Interviewed One of Them." She is joined by Jake, a Neuralink participant with ALS, and Ryan, who has covered Neuralink on YouTube for about six years. Jake talks about getting his implant in June 2025 and how it helps him communicate and stay independent. They also cover the trials and where this technology is heading. I am one of those fewer than 30. I am Neuralink patient 3. Watch it here: youtu.be/tmECPtFS8FE @esherifftv @PairedWith_P7 @teslaownersSV @neuralink

Apple's first foldable phone is here, and CNET just posted its iPhone Duo review. Abrar Al-Heeti walks through the whole thing in about 11 minutes. She covers the design, the displays and the build quality. Then Touch ID vs. Face ID, battery life and the iOS experience. She also tests the camera system and the dual-screen features, StandBy mode and 67W fast charging. And she puts it head to head with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. Her verdict is right in the title: "I See Why Apple Took Its Time." CNET says it "feels intuitive" and "genuinely fun" to use, "if you can stomach the price." The Boring Company is pulling full shipping containers through its tunnels with a sled built from a Tesla Model 3. It is called the Liner Truck, and it uses a Model 3 battery pack and powertrain. Its main job is hauling preformed concrete tunnel segments to the boring machine. According to TBC, it can haul 22,000 pounds. It tops out at 12 mph under that load and has 28 miles of range. Now TBC has shown it carrying a standard shipping container with only about an inch to spare on each side. InsideEVs says the containers fit "like a glove." It is remote piloted, in line with TBC's Zero-People-In-Tunnel approach. Nico DeMattia has the full story at InsideEVs: insideevs.com/news/812647/bo… @boringcompany @Tesla @elonmusk @InsideEVs

If you missed Saturday night in Provo, BYU just released THE CUT. It is a cinematic full game recap of the Cougars beating No. 2 Notre Dame 28 to 24 at LaVell Edwards Stadium, right after ESPN's College GameDay. Almost half an hour of the whole night, start to finish. Bear Bachmeier ran for two touchdowns and even caught one. Then he hit Walker Lyons for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:47 left. And the defense held at the 9 as time ran out. Go Cougs! youtu.be/-0DhkA9Ws9w @BYUfootball

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent sat down live on The Morning Meeting today with Mark Halperin, Larry O'Connor and Kevin Walling. With the midterms in their final two weeks, this is a timely one. They cover the economy, inflation, energy prices and government borrowing. They also get into the administration's economic case to voters and the Michigan Senate race. Then the big global picture: Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, the push for a Ukraine and Russia deal, and China's deepening ties with Russia. A full hour, straight from the Treasury Secretary.
