It was so good to see my friend Eduardo Bolsonaro after so long and reminisce about how it all started. I still remember October 28, 2018—the day his father, Jair Bolsonaro, won Brazil’s presidential election. That evening, while in Rio de Janeiro, President-elect Bolsonaro received a congratulatory phone call from The President just seven minutes after his victory was announced. Yesterday on BBC Newsday, I discussed the selection of the next UN Secretary-General. My message is simple: the UN Charter does not require regional rotation, nationality or gender. Those are political traditions, not legal rules. The world should choose the best person for the job - based on merit, reform and results.
