"A UC Merced professor of History and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies is calling for the ‘dezionization’ of the University of California, explicitly comparing his project to the ‘denazification’ of postwar Germany. In an extraordinary essay published [last] week on the UC Ethnic Studies Faculty Council’s Substack, with the Council itself sharing the byline, Council member Sean Malloy proposes severing university relationships with organizations that support Jewish students, including Hillel, rejecting donations from foundations and individuals that support Israel and restricting individual faculty research with Israeli-linked entities. He also calls for establishing a new ‘University Committee on Dezionization,’ independent of UC’s administration and Regents that is empowered to implement changes. Indeed, Malloy questions whether university leaders he considers complicit in Zionism should be allowed to continue governing UC, declaring that ‘a major overhaul of the governance of the UC system’ is ‘part of the point.’ Most disturbingly, he declares that any group working toward the dezionization of the university must ‘explicitly commit to anti-Zionism as a core principle. Anti-Zionism can and should be a litmus test in this respect.’ ... What makes this manifesto particularly alarming is not simply its extremism. It is that the academic movement from which it emerges is deeply embedded in the University of California itself. ... The [UC Ethnic Studies Faculty] Council’s political campaigns and Malloy’s chilling plan to 'dezionize' UC expose the consequences of the conception of ethnic studies advanced by [UCSC Professor Christine Hong] and other leading practitioners, which makes anti-Zionist political struggle part of the discipline’s academic mission. The university itself becomes the object of that struggle, with Malloy proposing to enlist its authority and resources to eliminate Zionism from campus life, academic relationships, and ultimately its own governance. UC must not wait for that vision to become reality. A problem rooted in the academic mission of university departments cannot be solved simply by reining in the political activities of individual professors. Departments that make political warfare their mission have no business wielding the power and authority of a public university." jewishjournal.com/commentary…

"[W]hat we’re finding now is more institutional. Professors being institutionally antisemitic. You need to prove whether or not you’re a good Jewish person or a bad Jewish person. What are your sentiments about Israel?” - Former Colorado State University art student who in the post 10/7/23 environment on campus alleged that after she pained scenes of an Israeli kibbutz, she was “threatened through emails” and “failed on multiple projects when they had anything to do with my faith or Israel.” By the end of the semester, she claimed to have been “given the option from (the professor) and his wife who ran the department to leave of my own free will or be failed out.” denvergazette.com/2026/10/20…

AMCHA Note - AMCHA did not independently verify the following statistics, however, it is interesting to note the involvement of faculty as AMCHA has extensively reported on faculty conduct. The following analysis was performed by AO7 with respect to federal civil rights data: "Faculty members at Washington University in St. Louis were accused in more than one-quarter of the antisemitism complaints filed with the university over four academic years, according to previously unreported federal civil rights data reviewed by After October 7. The university did not provide federal investigators with details of the incidents despite repeated requests, leaving the public unable to determine what faculty members were accused of doing or how the school addressed anti-Jewish bigotry on campus, the data show. The university said it received 45 complaints involving antisemitism between the 2021–22 and 2024–25 academic years, including 27 in the year following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led massacre of Israelis. Faculty members were identified as accused parties in 27% of the antisemitism complaints, but their identities withheld, according to a 220-page report released September 28 by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. The report does not make a distinction between acts of antisemitism and those involving antizionist bigotry, which targets Jews as proxies for Israel. ... The faculty figures reported by WashU are especially striking. Professors were identified as accused parties in 30% of antisemitism complaints during 2023–24 and 25% during 2024–25. Across all four years, faculty members accounted for 27% of accused parties, students for 42%, and individuals classified as “other” for 24%. The accused party was unknown in the remaining 7%, according to the report. The university did not disclose what the faculty members allegedly said or did, and the report contains no descriptions of the allegations against professors or findings concerning their conduct. Nor did WashU disclose the nature of the disciplinary measures it imposed. The federal data also shows that 84% of complainants were students, indicating that students were overwhelmingly responsible for bringing allegations of anti-Jewish bias to the university’s attention. The largest category of complaints concerned classroom and campus conduct, accounting for 40% of the total. Online and social media activity represented another 38%, while graffiti and imagery accounted for 9%. Only 4% of complaints were classified as protest-related. The figures indicate that most complaints involved conduct outside the university’s formal protest category, despite the national attention focused on anti-Israel demonstrations and the prevalence of bigoted imagery and slogans targeting Israel and 'Zionists' at such events. The report does not identify the specific incidents classified as classroom conduct or online activity, making it impossible to determine the scope of the problem of anti-Jewish bigotry at WashU or to ensure accountability." kevindeutsch.substack.com/p/…
