Check out my first PhD paper, detailing new observations of the stratigraphy of the 1883 eruption of Krakatau, revealed by the dec 2018 tsunami in the Sunda Straits. This dataset in integrated with the eruptive timeline and geochemistry to investigate the eruption progression 👇

Mauna Loa volcano yesterday, 12/5 at sunrise, from midway up Mauna Kea. 🌋☀️ Today the mountain is socked in & difficult to see so I’m starting to work through content & will try again tomorrow. Not for broadcast.

Cooling and slowing as it flows: USGS image of a Mauna Loa #Volcano lava channel flowing downslope on 7 Dec. at approx. 8.2-11 m/s (i.e., way faster than typical walking speed of 1.3 m/s). When lava reaches the tip of the lava flow it has slowed to just 6 m/h (0.0016 m/s).
