Do you want more of SNL’s Nigerian wicked! Guess what?! A feature film version has been in the works since 2021! This year, we made a proof of concept! Help us get the word out!

I don't think it's a distasteful caricature tho. Reminds me of C.J. Obasi's "Hello, Rain."
It just isn't a funny skit.
You're right about the foreign platform recognition; in this case it may be why many praise the skit even though it's unfunny in that Nigerian diaspora way.

I think we’re so starved for representation and recognition on foreign platforms/stages that we rush to celebrate everything even when we’re the joke. I might be hyper sensitive but I personally I’m never thrilled at caricature portrayals of Nigerian culture or Nollywood. I get why people find it funny and if we were in a global media landscape that was flush with portrayals of Nigerians or our culture with excellence, I might find it enjoyable.

Getting older means your arm has to be in just the right position when you go to bed if you want to use it the next day
‘Album of the year’, ‘song of the year’, ‘song of the summer’ (🤢) - what do they mean in a time when mono culture is a thing of the past and Nigeria’s media is weaker than ever?
does album of the year mean the best in terms of quality or an album that had the largest mainstream pull?
“Na this match dem go use decide ballon d’Or” - average Nigerian football fan saying rubbish as usual.
