October 27th, 1982, PRINCE unleashed the 1999 album upon the world. They weren't ready to party just yet upon release. In 1983, that all changed when MTV under pressure to play more Black artists videos back then by the labels & artists such as David Bowie, "Little Red Corvette" was added to their channel. It became his biggest hit to date at the time, reaching #6 on the pop charts and also causing "1999" as a single to be re-released and gain traction. Touring behind it with The Time & Vanity 6, billed as The Triple Threat Tour, it was a huge success. The album has too many cuts on it but I will ask anyway. What are your highlights from the 1999 album & era? 💜💜💜 #PRINCE #Prince4Ever #1999 #princelegacy

45 years with Controversy 💜 On this day in 1981, Prince released his fourth album, Controversy, marking today as the 45th anniversary! Released just 12 months after Dirty Mind, Controversy demonstrated Prince's evolving worldview and further demonstrated a growing resistance to the political tensions that shaped the era. With powerful singles such as Sexuality, Let's Work and and of course, Controversy, Prince articulated a new declaration of freedom, “let your body be free." What track from Controversy forever shaped you?

On this day in 1992, Prince and the New Power Generation released Love Symbol. The album title, techincally unpronounceable, was referred to as Love Symbol due to the language included on the CD's spine that read "Love Symbol Album". Upon the release of Love Symbol, Prince debuted iconic tracks such as Sexy M.F. and My Name Is Prince. With many other funky and vibrant tracks to name, let us know your favorite!

On this day in 1980, Prince released his third studio album, Dirty Mind 🖤 Producing singles such as Uptown and Dirty Mind, the genre-defying album fused elements of rock, funk, new wave and synth pop. Dirty Mind also broke barriers of being Prince’s first sexually explicit album, through bold lyrics and provocative themes.   Which track from Dirty Mind was most groundbreaking to you?

Clark is not a bad player. She is an all-star. She's dynamic. She can fill it up. CC is also someone who can not be be your best player. Folds against elite teams. Turns the ball over too much and is an erratic 3 pt shooter. She's basically Trae Young with Congress backing him.

Diamonds and Pearls was a commercial success, as it received platnium certification in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and France. NAME THAT FAVORITE TRACK! 35 Years Ago Today on October 1, 1991, Prince released his 13th studio album Diamonds and Pearls. It was the first album to be credited to Prince and the New Power Generation. The album featured a completely different band lineup with Michael Bland on drums (for most all of the tracks), Sonny T. on bass, Tommy Barbarella on keys, Levi Seacer, Jr. on rhythm guitar, Rosie Gaines on keyboards and vocals, and the Game Boyz which consisted of Tony M. (lead rapper), Damon Dickson, and Kirk Johnson. And Tony will tell you, the rapping was very polarizing to some fans. Especially after Prince proclaimed previously that "the only good rapper is one that's dead (on it)." The album had 6 singles including Gett Off, Cream, Insatiable, Diamonds And Pearls, Money Don’t Matter 2 Night, and Thunder (only in the UK). Also, Willing And Able was released as a promotional single in the US. Prince toured extensively in Europe, Japan and Australia to support the album which helped push it to number 3 on The Billboard 200 Top Albums Chart and number 1 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums Chart. There would also be a posthumous re-release of the album as a Super Deluxe box set in September of 2023 that was accompanied by 3 CDs of vault tracks, full audio tracking and Blu-Ray video from the January 11, 1992 Glam Slam show in Minneapolis, MN, a video of the Special Olympics performance at the Minneapolis Metrodome in July 1991 (and its soundcheck), and the full Diamonds And Pearls Video Collection that was only previously available on VHS. Thunder (5:45) Daddy Pop (5:16) Diamonds And Pearls (4:43) Cream (4:12) Strollin’ (3:46) Willing And Able (4:59) Gett Off (4:31) Walk Don’t Walk (3:07) Jughead (4:56) Money Don’t Matter 2 Night (4:46) Push (5:52) Insatiable (6:39) Live 4 Love (6:59)

SHOW YOUR LOVE and NAME THOSE FAVORITE TRACKS! 14 Years Ago today, Prince released 2 albums on the same day, Art Official Age and his album with 3rd Eye Girl, PLECTRUMELECTRUM. And I'll say it, because I really kind of feel this way, Art Official Age feels more like the final album that he meant to make. His closer. His swan song. I'm aware that there was also HitnRun Phase 1 and 2, but Art Official Age seemed to be his closing cohesive statement. The state of the world, the inevitable love songs, the standard funk tracks, some personal introspection, and then topped off with final affirmations narrated by an overarching spiritual guide in the voice of Lianne La Havas. THIS to me was his final cohesive album. The undeniable flow of Breakfast Can Wait, the haunting U Know (have you listened to this in headphones?), the trippy This Could Be Us, the funk punch of Funknroll, and even the amazing What It Feels Like. Which by the way is only half a song. I interviewed Andy Allo and she told me that her song When Stars Collide off of Superconductor was originally the first half of this track. And when you put them together, its magic. Try it. That's your homework. And then you have the companion album that he was destined to make. A punch in-your-face that seemed more like he was completing a challenge. Put together a raw rock project with girls. Betcha can't do it. "Hold my beer." The result? 3rd Eye Girl and PLECTRUMELECTRUM. A 4 piece project with a trio of lady rockers and Prince. A polarizing album to some, but with a look under the hood, there's way more than most can comprehend. About the only thing that PLECTRUMELECTRUM was missing (and I've whined about this before) were those beautiful unreleased masterpieces that he leaked out during the recording processes like Menstrual Cycle, Octopus Heart, Boomstratus, and the others that would have perfectly filled the spaces and created a full featured project. But, that's just me. Prince made the album that he wanted to make, so who am I to complain? From the ebbs and flows of Whitecaps, Prince's introduction of Lizzo to the world on Boytrouble, the raucous Pretzelbodylogic, and even the revisioning of the LiV Warfield track Unexpected (aka Wow), its a tour de pimp slap. So, again, who are we to question? The end result are two great albums that are distinctly unique from each other. One filled with incredible songs that seemed the most qualified to stand as Prince's final album to the world (which it wasn't, thank God), and the other that solidified the notion that this dude could do anything. Ok, pick one track from each. If that's even possible.
