Uzra, the little girl whose world was turned upside down. Today, we brought her toys and warm clothes — reminders that she is still a child. Her tent, rugs, and blankets are her temporary safe home for now. Even in the hardest times, childhood should not be lost.

Last night’s earthquake took away the little safety Maryam and her mother had left. Maryam’s father passed away two years ago in Iran. Her mother, a widow, was later deported back to Afghanistan, where they built a small home together. That home is now gone. When our Atalaan reached the village, Maryam was holding her teddy bear tightly — the only thing she could save. She kept smiling softly, even as everything around her lay in ruins. 🚨 BREAKING: A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has struck northern Afghanistan. Reports from Aseel Atalaan confirm that Samangan, Mazar, Nawshaad, Tashqurghan, and Khulm have all been shaken.
