Two litters of Hoglets were admitted today and both were victims of 'Plastic Pollution'.
One wrapped in Green Pea Netting and one in Christmas Tinsel.
We can't show you the injuries as they are too upsetting, but look into his eyes and see his distress and pain. Stop Polluting!

It's so important this time of year to recognise the difference between:
a hedgehog who is seen out in the day because the nights are too short for her to sufficiently forage for her needs
and
a hedgehog who is seen out in the day because she is dying and desperately needs help.

Please resist the urge to tidy your garden or remove structures during the baby season.
If you do accidentally uncover a nest, immediately cover it straight back up, move far away from the area, and call a rescue for advice.

You know that drawer/cupboard in the kitchen where all the oven trays and pans you never use live?
Get them out, fill them with water and place them round the garden, front and back, under shade and cover, and in the sun.
And please refresh them at dusk for the nocturnal animals.

Hedgehog mothers are becoming heat stressed and abandoning hoglets.
Make sure you always have water available in the garden and put down a bowl of kitten kibble every night.

Would you recognise a wild Hedgehog nest and know what to do if you disturb one?
Yesterday homeowner Hoss was in that very situation and took the correct actions.

Well done everyone. 🦔🐾🐾

ALT Because the hoglets are so young, about 24hrs old, we decided to use a 'Box and Pen' system to try and encourage mum to fix to her 5 babies. Hoglets this young are very difficult to hand rear so being with mum is very important. 'Box and Pen' has its own problems when the weather is so warm. Protection from flies and providing shade is of paramount importance.

Why do retrofit loan schemes always seem to fail in the UK? (Remember the Green Homes Grant? The Green Deal?)
What would it take to make them work?
Well, we @nesta_uk have been looking in detail in this question, and today we have published our answer...🧵

Heat pumps? Harrumph. Unproven technology. Probably foreign. Don't work.
Wait, what? Invented by Lord Kelvin, 1852. Patented 1912. Heating UK homes for 72 years. In 2/3 of Norwegian homes, most of UK #Horeca & retail sectors, 10% of world's space heating.

If there's one point I think people really need to get, it's that we don't live on a planet that just happens to be suitable for life, Earth is the way it is BECAUSE of life. Oxygen and methane in the atmosphere, life! Coal seams and oil fields, life! Cliffs of limestone, life! 1

HEAT PUMPS DON'T WORK WHEN IT'S COLD!!!

Our humble garden hedgehog once walked with sabre toothed tigers and hairy mammoths.
It has survived, unchanged, for over 15 million years, despite persecution and hardships.
We must not be the generation who finally wipes out this stoic little creature.
