Thank you, @DreamScholars, for inviting me to discuss Indian art history, dreams, astrology, and oneiromancy this year. Today, I gained insights from the exiled Tibetan community in my ancestral lands; their astrology, art, dreams fascinate me! Feeling thankful on my birthday! 🤍
I’ll be speaking at two International Association for the Study of Dreams (@DreamScholars) conferences—one online at the summer solstice, the other in India at March's lunar eclipse. Both explore Indian art, dreams, and astrology through painted dream manuals used by astrologers.

I'll share more at the Oxford Symposium of Occult Studies at @StJohnsOx in November. Findings will be published by @BurlingtonMag as a Shorter Notice on these paintings: part of my reassembly of dispersed royal Mandi astrological series from @metmuseum, @ClevelandArt, and others.
Jupiter in sidereal Leo! Thank you Brihaspati graha and Simha rashi: last year your grace let me identify correct tantric and Yavanajataka verses so to honour your true forms. @AshmoleanMuseum & @UniofOxford corrected records: Sajnu, Mandi painting from Himachal Pradesh, 1808-10.

It's autumn now and the leaves here in the Midwest have begun to change. It has me thinking about the color green a lot and the annual fleeing of it. The fifteenth-century physician and philosopher Marsilio Ficino describes the Venusian virtue of green things beautifully in Three Books on Life: "...the nature of green things, for so long as they stay green, is not only alive but even youthful and abounding with very salubrious humor and a lively spirit; and because of this a certain youthful spirit flows to us through the odor, sight, use, and frequent habitation of and in them." (Kaske & Clark translation) This Venus retrograde is hitting a lot of us pretty hard. And perhaps there is something fitting about turning toward Venus precisely as the world around us begins to lose its green. As seen above, Ficino explains that green things are repositories of the qualities that allow life to flourish and renew itself. Even when the landscape appears to be withdrawing into dormancy, Venusian life has not disappeared. It's changing into a different kind of beauty. So, in honor of Venus, and perhaps as a small antidote to the seasonal loss of green, I've decided to make my Venus in Taurus collection half-off through the end of the retrograde, November 13, 2026. These talismans were made for cultivating Venusian qualities of beauty, pleasure, affection, prosperity, and material flourishing. It's an invitation to tend the inner garden even when the world outside is beginning to go dormant. Sale Price: $75 - Free shipping to the continental US; an additional $50 for international orders. Woke up to an email from the Journal of Mythology: they've accepted a paper on my dream and painting for their 'Creatures' issue! It's a winged gaja-simha - a classic elephant-headed lion chimera from Hindu and Buddhist lore. Brilliant way to start the day!
I'll be speaking at Alchemy: Exploring Metaphorical Transformations and Arts-Based Research at the @UniofOxford in November 2025 for @IndelibleLit. My topic is my own dream and the Indian art history of dream omens, yoga nidra, active imagination, fine art as yogic rasashastra.

From a Jyotish perspective, the dream may be a manifestation of Gaja-Kesari (elephant-lion) yoga, active in my D1 and the prashna chart. An auspicious Vedic combination formed when Jupiter sits in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) from the Moon.
