I am not a big fan of individual awards because football means teamwork and family and belonging to something greater. But Unai represents his own excellency and the hard work and effort of hundreds of men and women with a purpose in Aston Villa. From owners to staff. Unai didn’t win but he deserved with my high respect to Luis De la Fuente, also a fair winner. And if there will be one for the best sporting director it would be for Roberto. Keep going guys. Our Ballon d’Or is what we are building. UTV.

“I worked to be here. Of course, grateful to all the coaches that were working with me, all the players that worked with me, and now especially Aston Villa, because Aston Villa is where I am feeling so, so comfortable and well, improving, improving in my career as a coach.”
On whether he has prepared a speech:
“I will try to be natural, like I am now, and speaking of my experiences and how I am feeling in this moment.”

It would be very Aston Villa under Nassef Sawiris to just announce that Unai Emery has signed a new contract with the club to quieten the noise.

Unai Emery: "I have to say, I'm genuinely proud of the players. My job is difficult. When we get good results, I receive a lot of praise, but I want to make one thing clear: the players' job is harder than mine.
"We have a great group of human beings. This season could go one way or the other, but we have to stay united behind them because they're showing tremendous work ethic and discipline." #AVFC

The estimated costs of shutting the North Stand this year is around £6m. The North Stand build is being funded by a combined £150m in ‘private placement’ loans (£90m+£60m). Unai Emery on four years at #AVFC: "I am not celebrating. The only celebration I have is when I can have some days off, or I can rest - another day working. I can remember four years ago when I came here. My birthday is 3rd November and on the day of my birthday I was preparing a game for 24 hours. And now is the same. I'm not doing celebrations, I’m only working more and trying to enjoy the way we are doing."

Unai Emery on Ross Barkley: "Firstly, as a person, he is a fantastic guy. Getting emotions together is important, and everyone needs to feel the same. Ross Barkley is a very good player with experience, and his career, I don't know why, was going down after Chelsea. When we watched him at Luton, we thought, 'Wow, what a player'. I am so happy with how he is playing his football for us, always being respectful whether he is playing or not playing. I am pushing him a lot offensively. I know he can score and can head the ball. I am very demanding of him offensively. I am happy for him."
