Former Michigan Governor Jim Blanchard — a longtime friend and supporter of Haley Stevens — says he was having dinner on Friday with Stevens and her fiancé, and that Stevens was excited to attend the church service with Jim Clyburn and Abdul El-Sayed.
Blanchard said that Stevens’ fiancé, Jason Turkish, began chiding her at the dinner.
“He was working her over. The way he was saying it was, ‘Everyone is disappointed in you, they did everything they could to help you and then immediately after you lose the primary, you endorsed him.’”
“He was all distraught,” he said.
“He was all strung out about Abdul. I let her know, he’s not a good influence.”
Blanchard remained in touch with Stevens throughout the weekend and expected her to attend the church service. He only found out from the news that she was at the service with Rogers and endorsing him.
“Something snapped in her. And it snapped in 24 hours,” Blanchard told Zach Gorchow of State Affairs.
“And I don’t know what.”
Blanchard, clearly pained by the situation, said several times, “This is not the Haley I know.”
He lamented Turkish’s “terrible political judgment.”

Before she became the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin was a 19-year-old performer still figuring out what kind of artist she wanted to become. This photograph from 1961 shows her rehearsing with dancer and choreographer Charles “Cholly” Atkins, years before Franklin's voice would make her one of the most celebrated singers in American history.
Atkins became closely associated with Motown later, joining the label in 1964 and helping shape the precise, synchronized choreography that became a defining part of the company's stage performances.
At this point in Franklin's career, she was signed to Columbia Records and was recording and performing a mixture of jazz, pop, blues and R&B. Her father, Reverend C. L. Franklin, was already a prominent Baptist preacher in Detroit, and Aretha had grown up surrounded by gospel music and some of the most influential Black musicians and performers of the era.
Her early years in entertainment were not an instant success. Columbia struggled to find the right direction for her, and her recordings did not initially produce the breakthrough the label hoped for. Everything changed when she signed with Atlantic Records in 1966 and began working with producer Jerry Wexler.
Songs such as “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You),” “Respect” and “Chain of Fools” soon transformed her career. Her gospel upbringing, powerful voice and ability to move effortlessly between soul, R&B and other styles made her one of the defining musical figures of the 1960s.

It’s been one gut punch after another for our Iowa farmers.
Ashley Hinson voted five times for the tariffs driving up costs and seven times to continue the reckless war in Iran causing diesel prices to climb.
Every time Iowa farmers needed a champion, Ashley Hinson failed them. Our farmers deserve someone in Washington who will actually fight for them.

Texas Prediction #2: Rural Texas is mad as hell about Data Centers and it's showing up in the polls. While Republicans are saying it's for Paxton, it's not. It's Data Centers driving the turnout. And this is where the Democrats can really grow the party after the election. It's time to take back Rural Texas and show Texas Democrats are about Texans and ALL workers.
🔊 No Democrat has won statewide office in Texas since 1994. That could be about to change. Polls show 37-year-old James Talarico narrowly ahead of Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. Listen to the Reuters World News podcast for more reut.rs/4jTlJt4

My wife is a 7th-generation Texan. She worked for W Bush Admin-DOJ + @JudiciaryGOP-Lamar Smith.
This year she voted straight-ticket Democrat for the first time in my life.
Why?
Because the only way to save the GOP is for it to lose.
