Stumps, holes, rotting roots, dead limbs on a living tree and fallen trees are all forms of deadwood and each support a different community of fungi and invertebrates!
Fishlake and Sykehouse are home to a wonderful collection of ancient willow trees. These trees connect us to our history, heritage and culture. They contribute to the area’s distinctive character and are a fantastic wildlife habitat.

Please say no to pesticides and herbicides. Cocktails of these chemicals in fields, gardens, parks, verges and community spaces are poisoning wildlife including bees, birds, hedgehogs, butterflies, beetles, frogs, damselflies. They pollute our rivers. Let's give nature a chance.

Around 66% of the UK's traditional orchards have been lost since 1960 – bad news for wildlife, as orchards support a wide range of species including bats, woodpeckers and all sorts of insects. So if you have space, please plant a fruit tree or two!
