The Unconditional Love of Tamil Audiences For My Performance in Dorothy Gives Me the Energy and Responsibility to Do Better’ - Actor Muthukumar* _*From Powerful Characterisations in ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ to ‘Dorothy’, Vettai Muthukumar Continues to Win Appreciation for His Versatility. An actor’s versatility is often reflected in the characters he brings to life, but the true beauty of his craft lies in how audiences embrace him across contrasting shades of performance. Whether as a protagonist, an antagonist or a morally grey character, an actor who can transcend these distinctions and connect with audiences through his performance earns a special place in their hearts. Vettai Muthukumar, known for his compelling character portrayals in Tamil cinema, is experiencing this affection once again with his recent release, Dorothy, which has earned him appreciation from critics and audiences alike. Speaking about the response to the film and the love he has received, Muthukumar says, “One of the beautiful things about Tamil cinema audiences is the unconditional love they extend to actors, irrespective of whether they play protagonists, antagonists or grey-shaded characters. I am truly grateful for the affection and appreciation coming my way for Dorothy. I would like to thank my producers and director Karthik Subbaraj for entrusting me with such a challenging and promising role. While shooting for Dorothy, I told Karthik Subbaraj that it is going to be the best among all his 10 movies. Initially, I was roped in for playing the brother’s role, but I deeply desired to play the Whistle Veerayya role. Finally, I felt blessed to get that role. I am delighted that the character has connected with audiences, and the appreciation from critics and the general public has moved me deeply. I thank my entire team, especially the Makeup artists from Mumbai for such a makeover. This response has filled me with renewed energy, but it has also given me a greater sense of responsibility to carry this forward and deliver more promising performances that satisfy audiences.” With a strong foundation in theatre through his association with Koothu-P-Pattarai, Muthukumar has steadily established himself as a performer capable of inhabiting diverse characters. His portrayal of Thaniga in Sarpatta Parambarai brought him wider recognition, while his performances in films such as Petta, Mahaan and Jagame Thandhiram further showcased his range. More recently, his appearance as Rendu Idly in Thaai Kizhavi and Whistle Veerayya in Dorothy has added further dimensions to his growing body of work. For an actor whose strength lies in bringing individuality and conviction to every character, audience appreciation is both an affirmation and an incentive to explore new possibilities. With Dorothy earning him fresh recognition, Muthukumar looks ahead with gratitude and a renewed commitment to his craft. His journey stands as a reminder that memorable performances are not defined by the prominence of a role, but by the impression an actor leaves on the audience. He is now excited about his upcoming release ‘Sarpatta 2’, and Sivakarthikeyan starrer ‘Seyon’ alongside many projects lined up at different stages of production.
