I’ve watched and observed reactions to this scene from many content creators/streamers with different preferences and I can confidently say that the most genuine raw emotional reactions come from the ones that take in the narrative for what it truly is and don’t hate on Aerith for “reasons.”

Aerith gave Cloud the black materia cus she knew that Cloud would physically assault her if he didn't do it, while he went easy on Tifa. Also Tifa is the one who ultimately saves cloud and its gonna happen again. Its almost like both Aerith and Tifa are IMPORTANT characters.

A big impression I get from people who think Aerith or Zack should live in any way shape or form are people who really don’t like it when fiction isn’t always comforting. They can’t handle a story that emotionally challenges them so they would rather those challenges not exist.
