WE HAVE A NEW NAME!!!!! Thanks to @UCSDJacobs, @ucsdbe, and all of our amazing staff, students, and faculty. Thank you to Shu Chien for his leadership, and especially @BioLegend CEO Gene Lay for this transformational gift.
New paper in @NatureComms!
We developed Primer PICKR, a literature-mined database of qPCR primers that we hope makes assay design less painful.
Why do we need this? Every lab wastes time and reagents ordering primer pairs that don't amplify.
nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
By combining literature evidence, biophysical fit, and pair synergy. The result is 355,000 scored primer pairs across 31,000 genes, all free and searchable at primerpickr.com
Thanks @Abhinaba_UCSD, Tom Molley, and Alis Balayan for leading the effort at @ucsdbe and @ucsdjacobs. Thanks to @NIH for making this tool possible.
Calling all alumni and friends to support our @ucsdbe and @UCSDJacobs students on April 29th!
The first $10K raised will be matched by our BE Alumni Board!!

🎉🎉🎉 So happy to celebrate with Dr. Shu Chien and Dr. Kuang-Chung (K-C) Chien! 🎉🎉🎉
Their recent gift supports our new Bioengineering Instructional Lab, and it names the Dr. Kuang-Chung Chien Tissue Culture Room.
From the photos, it would seem that K-C hasn't lost her pipetting skills! Perhaps we found a new instructor for the BENG158 lab?
Thanks to @UCSDJacobs, our Chien-Lay Department of Bioengineering staff (@ucsdbe), and good luck to our students in their lab classes.
🎁Need some holiday reading???? 🎁
Check out our lab's latest oral #cancer work showing that #stiffness-induced mesenchymal cells use #paracrine #signaling to "educate" their neighbors. See the paper here:

Together, the cells cooperatively migrate, especially in the context of oral cancer (#OSCC).
Thanks to first author So Youn Moon for her great skills in identifying these signaling interactions and to our long-time collaborator Marcelo Lamers at @ufrgsnoticias
Thanks as well to @theNCI for funding this understudied tumor type!

🎉Just published a cool story in @NatureCellBio with @dtschump1 (@MayoClinic ) and @david_lagares (@harvardmed and Zenon Biotech) on #durotaxis.

Disruption of this pathway through genetic or pharmacological inhibition blocks durotaxis and attenuates disease severity, highlighting anti-durotactic therapy as a promising treatment strategy. (3/4)
Thanks to Cassie Happe and Ludovic Vincent from @UCSDJacobs and @ucsdbe for the help over many years to make the durotactic substrates used in the paper. Many, many others to thanks, especially @NIH for funding. (4/4)
