🧵 Since March 2022, I’ve lost four radio presenting jobs due to business troubles, local restructuring, and the like.
In February 2023 I decided to launch a YouTube channel. A place to put all my music nerdiness and passion as I couldn’t do so on the radio anymore.
In 1995, The Beatles released Anthology 1. On it are recordings featuring Pete Best. He was the group’s drummer before Ringo. However, the album artwork obscure’s Best’s head with a picture of Ringo.
Best retaliated to this in 2008 with his own album artwork. Clever!

It reignited my love for @fontainesdublin so much, I was inspired to make a video/video essay all about the band and how the theme of identity permeates their music

So... March was a bit of a milestone in my YouTube journey. I managed to break half a million views in a month (boosting my lifetime views to well over 2 million) and revenue from adsense has covered my mortgage and bills... Result!

The morning I sat in on @ahchrissawyer and @gregjames, the thing that amazed me most (other than their hospitality) was the almost telepathic communication between the two. It’s like they shared a mind when running that show. A sight to behold.

I will always love radio (and am very much still hoping someone will put me back on the air somewhere!) but my, albeit short, career has taught me it’s a rather fickle industry. I think it’s so important to build something for yourself, rather than rely on others.
Many more years of hard work are ahead for this channel before it’s anywhere near earning me a living but I reckon it’s worth a shot, right?
