No, @elonmusk, the U.S. stopped funding Ukraine last year. In fact, U.S. companies make money on American weapons for which we Europeans pay. The more you meddle in our politics and the more you play politics with your products, the more you damage your brand.
Replying to @elonmusk
And some of that US taxpayer money comes back through multiple laundry machines to fund political campaigns in America, which is why you see some politicians caring more about Ukraine than America!

This will be my final entry on the subject. I'm sorry for having been so active in the last 24 hours. Nevertheless, Solidarity (Pol. Solidarność) is part of our tradition, something which we discovered the hard way through history. I believe in our shared European future. What I mean is not federations but rather the establishment of close relationships within the EU. I've always been engaged in this activity, for instance, by co-founding the Interest Group on Algorithmic Foundations of Information Technology (IGAFIT), a pan-European initiative aimed at supporting the development of algorithms - igafit.mimuw.edu.pl/. In fact, we really did make the effort to look throughout all of Europe in order to find other people like us. We are members of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) - a pan-European network of excellence in the field of AI - ellis.eu/. We are giving our full support to our joint initiatives in the area of AI from Warsaw. It is sad to note that once again there is a clear split throughout the EU, and it is surprising that 54 prominent Europeans consider this acceptable. The position I have been taking over the past 24 hours is that it is not fine. Good luck with the Rhine Group! But, as I have already said several times: “Even if politics and markets will not unite, we scientists and entrepreneurs need to learn how to act in the favor of Europe as a whole. Furthermore, we must ensure we train the next generation of such leaders.” That's why I intend to carry out training such leaders in the future as well! "Everyone make mistakes, but if you make the same mistake twice, it's no longer a mistake, it's a choice." Involvement of stakeholders from CEE member states were notably marginal in @MARIODRAGHI19 report, now none from CEE was invited to form Rhine Group: rhinegroup.eu/. Hard to call it "right steps". You cannot talk about competitive Europe skiping European growth chanpions: xitter.cf/mmpiatkowski/status/20…. @mmpiatkowski To avoid mistakes like this, we need a truly connected Europe - an idea I recently outlined here: xitter.cf/piotrsankowski/status/…
No one will read it, but I have written my first political statement. Europe's regulation stifles innovation. We must end fragmentation, pool resources into industrial consortia, and focus on physical AI to regain sovereignty and compete with global tech.

Z punktu widzenia europejskiego konsumenta to niewyobrażalne. W USA to innowacyjna optymalizacja zysków. Amerykańskie ubezpieczenia to „czarna skrzynka”. Podobnie działa branża ubezpieczeń komunikacyjnych i majątkowych. Strategia dzieliła klientów: najpierw oferowano błyskawiczne, zaniżone ugody („aksamitne rękawiczki”), a gdy poszkodowany walczył o swoje, uruchamiano „rękawice bokserskie” i strategię Aligatora (Odmów, Opóźniaj, Broń się). Korporacja płaci gigantyczną karę, obiecuje poprawę i unika wyroku.
Europe has a dirty little secret. Poland is the continent's "Talented Kid," but let’s be brutally honest: we act like the bullied nerd who happily does everyone else’s homework for pennies while they take all the credit and get insanely rich. If you look at the viral "If Europe Was A Class" map circulating right now, we get the "Talented kid" badge. The map is correct. But they forgot to add: "...who has absolutely no idea how good they are." Look at the hard data. We currently rank #2 globally in all-time medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intern…). Second in the world. We are an absolute factory of algorithmic and mathematical talent. So, what do we do with this world-class brainpower? We export it. Instead of building our own trillion-dollar empires, we've spent years quietly writing the core code, building the deeptech, and training the AI models that fuel Western startups. We are the ultimate outsourced brainpower, humbly accepting a pat on the back while others IPO on our work. I touched on this exact dynamic recently on X: xitter.cf/piotrsankowski/status/… We have the raw intellect to dominate be strongly present in global deeptech. What we are missing is the audacity to own our IP, keep the talent here, and build our own global champions. It’s time the talented kid stopped doing the bully's homework and started running the school.
If Europe was a Class.. 😁

Great news has reached us from Astana! On August 2-8, 2026, the 3rd International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IOAI) took place there. Competing against over 400 participants from 103 countries and territories, the Polish representation achieved an outstanding result: every single one of our eight contestants won a medal! 🥇🥈🥉 According to the unofficial country rankings, we took 3rd place in the world - right behind China and Russia. These results are incredibly thrilling, but they also immediately bring up the thought that many of these brilliant minds will choose to pursue their academic careers outside of Poland. Olympiads are a very personal subject for me because they play a key role in shaping exceptional talents. I am a prime example of this myself - my scientific path was shaped, among other things, by the Olympiad in Informatics (you can peek at my old struggles here: oi.edu.pl/contestants/Piotr%…). Over time, my role changed - I participated several times as a team leader or coach during training camps organized in Poland, as well as joint Polish-Czech-Slovak camps. For a few years, I was also responsible for maintaining the software that automatically evaluated tasks at the OI. It was often a huge responsibility and a real school of life! Sometimes I messed up a bit, too... 💻 Olympiads are also a wonderful "relay of generations." I look with immense satisfaction at the organizational contributions of the people I've had the opportunity to work with. Take Marek Adamczyk, who worked on my ERC project. We've collaborated many times, and that's why I can sometimes call him my mentee - and he was actually one of the people who created the Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in Poland! 🤖 Then there's my former PhD student, Kuba Łącki, who for many years worked for the Olympiad in Informatics as a jury member, committee member, as well as a committee member of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) and co-organizer of the iconic Algorithmic Engagements (Potyczki Algorytmiczne). The relay continues. Today, IDEAS alumni are already taking care of the next generations of Olympians - at AI Olympiad. As @Jacek_Stasz recently commented on this process online: "Witold Drzewakowski and Marcin Podhajski, mentors, yet they were just recently receiving mentoring at IDEAS under the PhD program. Now you can clearly see the work of @piotrsankowski. Gentlemen, Congratulations and Good Luck!" It's so great to see this! 🎓 However, we have to face reality. As Poland, we are still struggling with the "brain drain" - the loss of our best talents. The successes in Astana show just how outstanding our youth is, but often the fruits of their labor are reaped by other economies. But there is hope! A recent article in "The Economist" (economist.com/china/2026/08/…) brilliantly showed that this trend can be reversed. In the span of just 25 years, China managed to make an incredible journey: from having only ten to twenty percent of people returning from abroad, to nearly 100%. This is proof that thoughtful, foundational work makes sense. Let's build an ecosystem for young people in Poland that they will want to return to!

This is wild... Russia seems to be threatening a *commercial* satellite that provides imaging services to Ukraine: ▸ starting about two weeks ago, Russia started maneuvering five (!) of their classified satellites to the same orbital inclination as the ICEYE satellite ▸ these burns were big, on the order of 100 m/s, clearly using chemical propulsion given the speed of the burns — very expensive and deliberate maneuvers ▸ as of last Friday, all five Russian satellites are now co-planar, at ~97.8° inclination, with three of ICEYE's satellites, and aligned in other orbital elements (e.g. RAAN) that make it clear they're specifically targeting this set ▸ I am a little skeptical that Russia is specifically targeting -X36 — there are two other satellites at the same inclination/RAAN (-X37 and -X38) — but the Russian sats are now all within striking distance of -X36, which is why people are concerned about it specifically; the closest cross-track distance is an estimated 500 meters (!!), all while the satellites are orbit 550 kilometers above Earth ▸ Russia has unleashed a cyberattack on a commercial satellite before (Viasat), and it is official Russian policy that commercially-owned infrastructure that aids in military efforts "may be legitimate target[s] for a retaliatory strike.” ▸ there's speculation that this could be a precursor to an RPO mission (meaning: physically grabbing the satellite or some other kind of non-kinetic attack like blinding/jamming) Worth tracking closely. And unfortunately more evidence that space is militarizing, fast.
Russia appears to have maneuvered at least five Cosmos satellites into nearly co-planar orbits with ICEYE-X36, a commercial SAR imaging satellite supporting Ukrainian military operations. integrityisr.com/is-russia-m…
