National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports concerning the suspected rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Mardu village, Ranchi, Jharkhand. The Commission has expressed serious concern over the reported incident and the safety and security of women and children in the region.
NCW Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Director General of Police (DGP), Jharkhand, directing the authorities to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a comprehensive, impartial, time-bound and scientific investigation into the matter. The Commission has called for the prompt identification and arrest of all those responsible, along with stringent action against the accused in accordance with the law.
The NCW has further directed the state authorities to ensure that the injured child receives immediate and appropriate medical treatment, counselling and all necessary support. The Commission has also emphasised the need to provide adequate protection, assistance and support to the victim’s family during the investigation and legal proceedings, while safeguarding their dignity and privacy.
The Commission has sought an Action Taken Report from the concerned authorities within seven days, detailing the steps taken in the investigation, the action initiated against the accused, and the measures adopted to support and protect the affected family.

എട്ടാം ദിനത്തില്‍ മഹാഗൗരി ദേവീസങ്കല്‍പ്പത്തില്‍ 27 ഹോമകുണ്ഡങ്ങളിലായി വിശേഷാല്‍ ദുര്‍ഗാസപ്തശതി ഹോമം നടന്നു. പഴങ്ങാപറമ്പ് നന്ദകുമാര്‍ നമ്പൂതിരി യജ്ഞാചാര്യനായി കാര്‍മികത്വം വഹിച്ചു.
