I spoke with @AFNeil in the UK about tomorrow's midterm elections.
Andrew asked why Americans are unhappy with their economy despite the American economy outperforming the rest of the world.
I said President Trump could've prevented that by underpromising and overdelivering over the past two years.

Miliband is preparing the ground for a formal apology here. And making clear money — if not reparations — will follow. The comments are worth a read!!

“Humiliation tomorrow night is likely to make him more unpredictable, more reckless, perhaps even more dangerous.”
A hostile Congress will not “neuter [Trump] into irrelevance”, but currently “the mood in the White House is grim”, says Times Radio presenter, Andrew Neil.

On the eve of the US midterm elections, there is still a disconnect between economic growth and soaring food, housing, and pump prices exacerbated by the conflict in Iran.
Trump should “lower expectations and raise results”, says pollster and communications strategist, Frank Luntz.
The Times at One with Andrew Neil coming up NOW on @TimesRadio
America votes tomorrow in perhaps the most significant mid-term elections of modern times. It looks like President Trump has lost the House. But can he hold on to the Senate?
On the eve of voting what do the latest polls say? We speak to one of America’s top pollsters, Frank Luntz.
The Prime Minister flies out to the Heads of Commonwealth meeting in the Caribbean. The King is already there. Reparations for slavery are back on the agenda. What’s really going on here? We speak to our very own Trevor Philips.
And the Budget has come and gone. Where does that leave the UK economy? And what about these global head winds? We’ll ask a leading economist.
Breaking News: Stunning last-minute development in Michigan, where the Democrats are fighting to hold on to a Senate seat. Democrat Haley Stevens, who lost her party’s primary, endorses Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers over left-wing/Palestine adjacent Democrat, Abdul El-Sayed.

Rachel Reeves tonight declares Britain should return to the European Union
The former chancellor says Brexit made the UK “poorer, weaker and less secure”
She will make her case in a lecture at the Harvard Kennedy School on Monday
Reeves helped draft the Labour 2024 manifesto which said no EU return
She’s one of the most prominent Lab figures to back rejoin since Burnham became PM
The tectonic plates within Labour are shifting. Will more follow her?
Reeves writes in The Sunday Times:
“I am proud of the progress we have already made in strengthening our relationship with the European Union. Brexit has made us poorer, weaker and less secure.
“There is a debate to be had about our future relationship with Europe, and I welcome Andy Burnham’s leadership in facing up to this. No one in the Treasury ever doubted where my instincts were.
“I do believe Britain’s future lies in the European Union.
“However, it is incumbent on supporters of our re-entry to make the argument, demonstrate tangible benefits and to get the next steps right — especially ahead of the UK-EU summit later this month, where at a minimum we should be looking for confirmation of the ambitious youth mobility scheme negotiated earlier this year, and — I hope — progress towards entry into the SAFE defence partnership.”

Rachel Reeves, LBC 6 February 2023
RACHEL REEVES: Well, I voted to remain in the European Union, I thought that was in our national interest. But almost seven years have passed now, we are outside the single market and the Customs Union, we have to forge a path outside. The last thing I want for our country is to restart the division that occurred during that referendum.
IAIN DALE: If you believe coming out of the single market was so awful, if you believe coming out of the Customs Union has had bad effects if you think the lack of freedom of movement has damaged our economy, why wouldn't you argue to go back into those or allow those?
RACHEL REEVES: Because those decisions have been made. And we are now outside, and I don't think it would be good for our economy and for business if we started a whole load of protracted negotiations over a period of time. What I'm putting on the table and what Keir is putting on the table are practical things that could be done now to make it easier for British businesses to trade across the European Union. The status quo is not working, we want to improve on it. But I don't want to go back to the terrible division that we had in our country over many years through these negotiations.
IAIN DALE: Isn't the simple truth it's political expediency? Because you know that you'll find it more difficult to win back those Red Wall seats if you don't have a sort of bit of a Eurosceptic line in your policy line-up.
RACHEL REEVES: No, it's a genuine belief and from talking to businesses, that what they want are some of the practical changes that we've started to put on the table to make our trading relationship easier. And the idea that another seven years of negotiations is going to serve our economy. Well, I just don't think it will. And it will open up the divisions, which I think did huge damage to us as a country and I don't want to reopen them.

Typical intemperate response to my tweet about Britain’s role in slavery, which was even-handed in highlighting our appalling role in the slave trade AND expressing pride at our subsequent abolition of the trade and slavery. The first Empire in world history ever to do so. But it looks as if ‘even-handed’ is the last thing lots of folks on this platform are looking for.

Oh please, the need to display one's self-serving, vacuous virtue's become the societal destroying cancer in a way the fascist left can only dream of. The ideologically driven weaponisation of Britain's history will eventually destroy us all.
Actually it was made by a number of individuals since the captain was too sick to be in charge. Not one of which was ever tried for murder, even though they threw scores of people overboard to their deaths.

1) The decision to jettison slaves was not made by ‘Britain’ but by a single individual. FYI When the Royal Navy were suppressing slave trafficking in the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf it was not uncommon for traffickers to throw their slaves overboard before…
