A5: I KNEW I would have a use for this one day!
Jokes aside, soil types tend to be very consistent on our farm. #AgBookClub

#AgBookClub A5. You'll know the saying that your industry is only as good as its worst performer. So while these events may not be common, they inflict reputational (and regulatory) damage on everyone. That's why they're so harmful.

A7. "Would you pay more for something that is (insert sustainability claim)" Yes, we say! Do we buy it? No...

A7: I don’t know that we have to start thinking it’s wrong - but there is a basic tenet of advertising/selling where you have to make the problem you’re solving clear. If the problem isn’t recognized by your audience as a problem, it’s tough to sell them a solution. #AgBookClub

A5: it definitely seems strange from our current vantage point, but I think the quote says it: farming was the principle occupation worldwide. Chemists needed to prove their work would impact people on a large scale, and farming and food was the largest available. #AgBookClub

A6, I am enjoying! I’ve given up trying to guess what books you pick out will be about! But you are getting me to read outside my usual comfort zone!#AgBookClub

A3 Animal welfare=taking good care of animals. Giving them a happy, healthy life.
Animal rights= giving animals the same rights humans have.
Very different. Animals are not people and don't react or feel the same as humans. Animals do deserve to be treated w/respect. #AgBookClub

Do you think a writer can be objective and persuasive at the same time? Or are those mutually exclusive goals? #AgBookClub

A2: I think it’s a tough balance. As a PR/communications person by trade, it’s not uncommon to get random unreasonable requests. But you have to allow some kind of window in or you look like you’re covering something up. #AgBookClub

A4: My favorite food quote is from writer Clementine Paddleford:
"We all have hometown appetites. Every other person is a bundle of longing for the simplicities of good taste once enjoyed on the farm or in the hometown left behind."
Food culture is important. #AgBookClub

A2: I think it began as a supply issue. Originally, people didn’t have access to food that weren’t local, so they didn’t develop a taste for ‘exotic’ food. Then transportation was an issue. Now we are coming back full circle (some are) to being locals ores again. #AgBookClub

A2: Edible and palatable (or nutritious - or even available) are different things. I think we eat more variety than generations past, but I’m not sure eating all the edible things should be the goal. #AgBookClub
