Perhaps if we were all more informed about these things, it’d be easier to have basic discussions about them for a start! At the moment it seems like many people shouting past each other because we don’t all actually understand exactly what we’re talking about.
Haven’t given any attention to my own music for the last couple of weeks or so now. Wanted to try out the vocals for Invisible Man at some point. Also should get back to doing a bit of mixing. Don’t want to lose the thread with all of that.
Just home from second practice with the cover band. Gig is next Saturday night, and we’re going to get together next Friday night for a last (although only third for me!) practice sesh before it. Quite enjoying it so far! It’s good fun to just be a guitar player…

Eyes half-closed, fully committed, fingers flying like he actually practiced this instead of just surviving Hot Cross Buns.
Somewhere a music teacher is watching this and having an existential crisis. The recorder has seen things. It will never be

I’ve found this lady Sara Carter’s YouTube vids on mixing to be very helpful recently. Here she gives 3 ways to bring out vocals in a chorus that are masked by the guitars.
1) turn vocals up
2) eq high mids out of guitars
3) turn guitars down

It’s a good lesson. Applying eq will affect the tone/overall sound of whatever we put it on. Using volume won’t. Sometimes the simplest and easiest solution is the best solution.
