Had a fantastic evening with @ScotLandEstates colleagues and members. Always fun to celebrate the farming sector and recognise some incredible businesses

REVEALED: England’s planned wildfire risk programme was never implemented. More than half of fire services surveyed also had no specialist wildfire PPE, while wildfire training was limited in some areas. Fire services need the right equipment and training. But prevention matters too. Land managers must be able to reduce dangerous fuel loads through controlled burning, cutting and grazing. Wildfire resilience starts before the fire engines arrive.

Among the many, many stories of disappointment from yesterday's SFI debacle, a notable casualty was the @Gameandwildlife @AllertonProject 's unbroken run of agri-environmental schemes since the '90s. Especially ironic given the research behind so many SFI options took place there

Good implementation starts early. A new UK-EU agri-food SPS agreement could affect food manufacturing, whether or not you trade with the EU. See what's already published and sign up for updates: gov.uk/government/publicatio…

"Watchdog accused of ‘giving away’ billions of litres of spring water to foreign bottling giants." Yep the EA are up to their old tricks again. The EA are charging Coca-Cola £6,070 a year to abstract water from the north of England which Coca-Cola then sells for £30 million. Did I mention that according to the EA by 2050 in England we will need to find another 5 billion litres of water per day just to keep our taps running and to try and save our chalk streams. What a hoax of a regulator. observer.co.uk/news/business…

The government's own wildfire prediction tool didn't see it coming. Gamekeepers did. For nearly three weeks the Crowden fire burned through deep peat in the Peak District, creeping toward the Dovestone blaze. Had the two met, vast stretches of moorland would have gone with them. Last week, teams from several shooting estates brought their own equipment onto the hill and worked straight through to dawn. They put out the fire's right flank themselves. The conditions were as bad as moorland gets. The National Gamekeepers' Organisation index had every moorland area at "extreme". Scientists had flagged the "30/30/30" crossover: 30°C, 30mph winds, 30% humidity. The official, government-recognised tool flagged none of it. Machinery cut fuel breaks toward Swineshaw Reservoir. Micklehurst Cricket Club ran food and water up to the line. When the system fell short, the people who manage the moor held it. Read more on our website.

🚜 Rural organisations are calling for a fair approach to carbon insetting. Farmers and growers must be properly rewarded, consulted and protected as supply chains work to cut emissions. Fair payment, consent, permanence and ownership must be at the heart of any agreement. 1/3

Disappointed I’ve not managed to find a single place in Edinburgh showing the Women’s World Cup T20 Final this Sunday. I wouldn’t even mind if everyone else there was cheering for the Aussies. Just want to watch some cricket! @T20WorldCup

Scotland may be known for its rainfall, but water is no longer an unlimited resource. 💧 Our latest article explores why farmers should treat water with the same strategic importance as fuel, feed and fertiliser. 🌱 fas.scot/article/ensuring-a-… @SRUC #ClimateChange

"This was another superb example of land managers and @fire_scot working together" 🔥This week a wildfire at Eastside Farm in the #PentlandHills burnt around 17ha - but estimates suggest it would have been far worse without rapid intervention. Read more: tinyurl.com/3h4avarp

As #WaderWeek draws to a close we would like to remind everyone of the importance of keeping dogs on leads during the spring months to help protect ground-nesting birds while they rear their young. Together, we can do our bit for these magnificent wader species!

Glad I got to mention @Hodmedods in my presentation. So many opportunities from changing diets for home grown crops beyond the staple grains.
The superb @AgriEleanor outlining just some of the opportunities for production in rural Scotland - makes the case that a shifting focus towards circularity in the economy will open up new avenues for rural businesses. #SLEConf26

Economic resilience is at the heart of any land management climate/nature transition says @emilymnorton who also echoes @AgriEleanor view that we have to avoid the binaries and think about integrated and multi faceted land use #SLEConf26

Great to hear from @emilymnorton on “The Economics of Climate Change” at #SLEConf26 and how farmers need to respond to the profound shift in attitudes and thinking on net zero, biodiversity and climate change.
