Why is it called cargo when goods are transported by ship, but shipment when they’re delivered by car? 🤔

🚨 3 THINGS. ⚽️ — CHELSEA ARE FIFTH. BUT THE NUMBERS SAY WE’RE PLAYING LIKE A MID-TABLE TEAM! 😳💙
October 29, 2026 | THE NUMBERS DON’T LIE.
A fascinating analysis by The Guardian has raised some uncomfortable questions about Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea.
We’re FIFTH in the Premier League.
But according to Opta’s expected-points model, our performances rank 12th.
Even below struggling Manchester United!
Omo! 😭
1️⃣ OUR FINISHING IS PAPERING OVER THE CRACKS. 👀
Chelsea have scored 6.7 goals more than expected from the quality of our chances.
Henderson, Rogers, Neto and João Pedro have been exceptionally clinical.
Brilliant.
But can we sustain that for another 30 league games?
My concern isn’t that we’re scoring too many goals.
It’s that we’re not creating enough chances to sustain those numbers.
Exceptional finishing is wonderful. Depending on it every weekend is dangerous.
2️⃣ 46.5% POSSESSION? UNDER XABI ALONSO? 😳
His title-winning Leverkusen averaged 61.8% possession.
Chelsea currently average just 46.5%.
Now, I don’t believe possession automatically wins football matches.
But here’s my problem.
We’re not consistently controlling games, and we’re struggling to get into opposition penalty areas.
Alonso has also changed formations repeatedly.
So what exactly is our attacking identity?
You can sacrifice possession for attacking efficiency. But what happens when that efficiency disappears?
3️⃣ THE ESTÊVÃO SITUATION IS BECOMING HARDER TO DEFEND. 😤
Here’s something interesting.
Estêvão averages 5.8 possessions inside the opposition penalty area per 90 minutes.
João Pedro averages 5.7.
Different positions. Different sample sizes.
But it tells us something.
Estêvão offers directness and attacking unpredictability.
Precisely what we’ve been missing.
And we’re leaving him on the bench?
I’m not asking Alonso to build his entire system around a 19-year-old.
I’m asking why a team struggling to create chances isn’t finding more opportunities for one of its most exciting attacking players.
MY TAKE?
I’ve backed Alonso. I still want him to succeed.
But patience shouldn’t mean ignoring the warning signs.
We’re fifth because our finishing has been exceptional, not because we’ve consistently dominated opponents.
And if those goals dry up without our overall performances improving, we’re in serious trouble.
Manchester United are next.
And perhaps the most uncomfortable part of this entire analysis is that, despite how badly United have struggled, the underlying numbers suggest Chelsea haven’t been much better.
The league table looks good. The football needs to catch up.
Up the Chels! 💙

Chelsea might find it difficult to get a point in this fixture, against a Manchester United team that has just made peace with themselves.
Another early kickoff ☹️
