I will never have as big a victory on the field as the one my incredible wife has won off it. After 50 weeks, 2 surgeries, 16 chemo treatments over 20 weeks, and 20 radiation treatments, she has kicked breast cancer's butt. She amazes and inspires me every single day.

Gave it everything we had. Just wasn't our day. Fanshawe ended the year 22-1 for a reason. Disappointed but need to remember we took over a 3-15 club in 2023 and now have 3 straight OCAA Medal in 4 years for the little program that could. 🥈 🥉 🥈 Very proud of our guys!

The only game I didnt attend during the 06' playoffs. Had a friends wedding that night and gave my tickets away to another buddy. Listened on the radio in the parking lot of the venue with all the other fans. Incredible moment.
What a moment! On this date 20 years ago, Magglio Ordoñez hit a home run to send the Tigers to the 2006 World Series

Not sure what the biggest travesty is? The fact that Sweet Lou is still not in the HOF or the fact he was booted off the ballot his first year with 2.9% ?!?!
GET LOU WHITAKER IN THE HALL OF FAME. #DNMW #RepDetroit

Not sure what the @TheOCAA record is for home runs in a game, but we hit an incredible 8 !! ...yes 8 in Game 1 yesterday! Combined with the 3 from @CougarsSault for a totall 11 !! What started out as a 14-1 lead for us in the third ended up in a wild 22-18 win in extras ?!? WILD!

A father posted this week: his son's D2 program has 96 players. 34 varsity, 62 on a "developmental" team. 187 parents from my emails and DM's said they see it too. Nobody said why. There is no rule requiring it. D2 has no roster limit and nine scholarships. The 96 is a choice. The 62 is the revenue line. Tonight, 9:30 pm ET: the arithmetic, the coaches who explained it on my show, what Yale's head coach told me about the other model, the eligibility trap inside a "developmental" year, and the six questions to ask before your son commits. Plus, from the inbox: expanded fall rosters at every level and the NAIA's November 4 vote.

Great post from a very talented student-athlete who chose to stay home and acquire a top flight education. Lets not forget the programs that are guilt tripping kids and families to take any opportunity in the US so that they can market their "success" for their business.
One of the greatest challenges facing Canadian university/collegiate baseball programs today is that every player wants to head south of the border and play for an American college. And while for some, that is a reality; for many, it's not. Whatever the reason: projectability, late bloomer, financial constraints, or the lack of accessible forums for displaying skills, there are many Canadian youths that deserve it, but never achieve it. With the current NCAA transfer portal landscape, four-year opportunities are becoming increasingly rare, and almost non-existent for Canadians, let alone the impossible financial commitment for the average household with current exchange rates. In light of this, US junior colleges have become the go-to alternative. They give students the ability to prove themselves against American collegiate level competition, while continuing their studies. But they come with a hidden cost. The JUCO model is built as a pipeline to American four-year schools, not back to Canadian ones. For the many players who don't land an affordable transfer, two years of development can mean coming home behind academically, with credits that only partly count toward a Canadian degree. Tying it back, Canadian university/collegiate baseball has a funding problem, there's no denying it. However, if the product were to increase in value, that could change. If talented Canadian baseball players were to spend their time (two years) in place of a JUCO at a Canadian school, they could have the opportunity to develop, while getting arguably a more affordable and better education, all the while still having the opportunity to transfer out at any time. Playing Canadian university/collegiate baseball should not be a fall-back or consolation. Instead, it should be a low-risk option for Canadians who need the extra two years to develop, and don't want to sacrifice their academics.

Happy Birthday to Sarnia-Lamnton legend Big E !!
Happy 94th Birthday to former A's catcher and @baseballcanada head coach and all-around Canadian baseball legend Eric MacKenzie! He was born in Glendon, Alberta., but I'm told he lives in Sarnia, Ont., now. P.S. I believe he is the oldest living Canadian ex-big league player.

Was at the @BlueJays game last night and @thehipofficial song came on in between innings and made me think. Why don't the @BlueJays have a "Tragically Hip Night"? All Hip songs all night, Hip related games, prizes, fan interaction, etc, while raising money for @downiewenjack ??

‘Travel sports,’ a term that has come to encompass all sorts of private teams, leagues, and clubs, used to be for the truly exceptional young athlete. Now, they’re for anyone willing to pay — an expensive, exhausting commitment that has become popular not necessarily because millions of parents want them for their children but because it can feel like there’s no other choice. Rec programs are underfunded and struggle to compete with for-profit leagues for prime field, rink, and court times. And the level of play is diluted, often very early, as travel teams are incentivized to enroll children at young ages. Around 5 million children in the U.S. now compete on travel teams. Parents find themselves trapped. They know the benefits of sports and want that for their children, yet giving it to them often means buying into a sports ecosystem that’s inherently flawed. As the pay-to-play model increasingly takes hold, so does the idea that kids should start competing at younger and younger ages, risking their sense of self along with their shoulders and ACLs. “I never want my kids to look back and say I didn’t do everything I could to help them live their dreams,” a mother of three soccer players said. She’s hired professional photographers to take action shots for her 12- and 13-year-olds’ Instagram accounts — the platform has become a recruiting tool — and they’ve both asked her to pay for personal trainers. “I think the word isn’t ‘specialize’; you are ‘professionalizing’ your kid early. You are exposing them to everything professionals have to deal with — I’m talking injury, time, schedule, everything,” said John Van Benschoten, a former MLB player and travel-baseball coach. It makes one ask: All this for what? And for whom? Read Caitlin Moscatello’s cover story on how travel leagues have made youth sports more expensive, hypercompetitive, and all-consuming — and the investors who are making a killing: nymag.visitlink.me/1-gbZQ
