New in #ASNJASN and simultaneously published with #KidneyWk: Study found empagliflozin 25 mg once daily for 12 months was safe & well-tolerated in adults with ADPKD at high risk for rapid progression. Those treated with empagliflozin had greater increase in kidney volume kidney.pub/JASN1271

Basic Research published in #ASNJASN identified a protein called ARL13B that helps drive cyst growth in polycystic kidney disease. In mice, blocking this protein reduced cyst growth and improved kidney health, suggesting it could be a possible target for future treatments. kidney.pub/JASN1238

Huge disappointment. High hopes...dashed
Following a recommendation from the DMD Boehringer Ingelheim has decided to discontinue the EASi-KIDNEY trial (NCT06531824) Testing vicadrostat (BI 690517), in combination with empagliflozin vs empagliflozin alone, could slow CKD and ⬇️ CV events boehringer-ingelheim.com/hum…

Some people with HIV who carry high-risk APOL1 genes may be less likely to develop kidney disease if they also have the APOL1 p.N264K genetic variant. This finding in #ASNJASN may help doctors better understand an individual's kidney disease risk in the future. kidney.pub/JASN1235

🏆 Lillian Jean Kaplan Prize for PKD: Feng Qian. Learn more: bit.ly/4xANJpj “I am deeply honored and humbled to receive the Lillian Jean Kaplan International Prize. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of many outstanding colleagues, trainees, collaborators, and patients whose contributions have advanced our understanding of polycystic kidney disease. While significant progress has been made, important challenges remain. I look forward to continuing the pursuit of discoveries that deepen our understanding of PKD and ultimately improve the lives of patients and families affected by this disease.” Prof. Qian

Guideline is based on primary outcome of TKV growth in HALT trial, which was sig lower in the low BP group, and on post-hoc analysis of chronic GFR slope, which was borderline significantly reduced. The rating of evidence (D) looks right.

APOL1 risk variants (G1/G2) form membrane pores that increase Ca²⁺ influx and kidney cell damage. The APOL1 inhibitor VX-147 and the M1 (N264K) variant reduced Ca²⁺ entry and improved cell survival, highlighting potential therapies for APOL1 kidney disease. #ASNJASN kidney.pub/JASN1159?utm_sour…

Our new study in @JASN_News: Autoantibody specificity matters: anti-nephrin, anti-podocin, and anti-KIRREL1 antibodies define autoimmune podocytopathies with distinct phenotypes, prognosis, and transplant recurrence risk. ovid.com/jnls/jasn/abstract/…

DOn't be fooled by this dreck. The real story is in E Table 3 The dapa acted as a diuretic to prevent KDIGO defined AKI where oliguria can trip the definition. When looking at creatinine defined AKI, a BIG NS for the study
