Bu kitaptaki denemeler “post-post-Kemalizm” kavramını Cumhuriyet’in temel meseleleri etrafında sorgulamayı hedefliyor. Destek veren hocalarımın emeklerine sağlık! Okunması ümidiyle.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump and his family have lost surprise elections, thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

Lula pulled off a historic comeback in Brazil. Despite right-wing voter suppression tactics deployed across the country, further online suppression by Meta, and the US backing his opponent, he’s projected to win 51-48.

Lula's victory a huge triumph for the Left in the whole continent. At a dinner in New York tonight ar Rashid and Mona Khalidi's apartment, a guest interrupted to shout 'Lula's won. !' Toasts and much applause. Good for Brazil. Good for the cause of Palestine. Good for Mexico and Latin America as a whole. Will post on substack tomorrow. Next: the mid-terms.

Robert Pfaller’s latest pamphlet is brilliant. It aims to show that there has been a reversal of the Adornian analysis of the authoritarian personality with the antiauthoritarian turn on the left since 68. This is a conundrum that many have tried to capture but I think he gets at it well. Very German focused in its examples.

Demek ki Sol muhalefet mümkün!
Bolsonaro lost!!! I was a little desperate after the first round but still trusted my Brazilian comrades! This is not the victory of Lula, but of those on the ground who worked like hell during the last three weeks to turn things around. Yet it’s not game over for Brazilian far-rightists yet. Compared to their Turkish, Indian, Israeli, and Hungarian counterparts, they have a crappy project (I’m explaining this in my forthcoming book). However, PT/Lula have seriously degenerated during the last 10-15 years and prepared the ground for Bolsonarism’s weak project to make such headway. In the coming years, the struggle will not be primarily between Bolsonaro and Lula (who is a man of the past) but between far rightists who will strive to go beyond the current weaknesses of the far right and the more dynamic forces of the Brazilian left -- those that have been trying to reorganize the favelas, workers, and peasants. This immense majority of the Brazilian people have fallen into either apathy after 2010, or into the hands of the Evangelicals (who, by the way, were not entirely on the far right until only recently … yet another field the center and the left lost due to their disorientation). Do PSOL and kindred forces have the capacity to pull this off? There are many actors and groups in these circles who have the skills and vision to do so, but there are also serious structural and subjective impediments (such as the ongoing influence of Lulismo itself). Brazil will remain one of the key countries to follow in the whole world because if the left can reorganize here despite these impediments, that development will constitute a major inspiration for the rest of the globe.
