📣 Really excited to share our new preprint! 🎉
biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
In this study, we dissect the roles of GIPR neurons in two adjacent brainstem nuclei, the area postrema (AP) and nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS), and show that they have opposing effects on feeding.
Excited to share a preprint of my postdoc work in the @zaknight lab!
We recorded the natural activity of neurons in the brain's "nausea center", the area postrema (AP), including the direct targets of major weight loss drugs like semaglutide.
biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
What we found:
🟠GFRAL neurons: activated by emetics and dietary fat
⚪️GIPR neurons: activated by sugar, possibly gate GFRAL activity
🔵CALCR neurons: track intestinal osmolarity and distension to pace meals
🟢PRLHR neurons: track blood volume/pressure
