A collapse, an OT winner and an interesting postgame reveal from Drew Doughty in my postgame #GoKingsGo report for @SportingTrib. thesportingtribune.com/2026/…
Byfield wins it in OT and the Kings squeak out two points they should’ve strolled to.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Headed to overtime tied at 5. Kings led 5-1 with 12:45 left in the third period. Brief but VERY audible booing in the arena.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Senators go empty net at 1:50 and tie it 10 seconds later. Unbelievable comeback/collapse here.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Gustafsson called for interference, Kings botch a scramble at the net, and it's 5-4. Gonna be a very interesting final 7:26.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Huge moment as the Kings' PK — shaky at best this season — kills a Kempe high-sticking.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
And the Senators score another one about 35 seconds later. 5-3 now and still a lot of time left.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
A 10-minute unsportsmanlike conduct for both, although there are more than 10 minutes left in the 3rd period.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Cousins and Helenius both called for penalties, but Cousins left the ice entirely rather than going to the box.

Update on the hit that got Hodgson ejected.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Cousins takes a bit of a cheap shot at Kempe on his way to the bench, called for roughing, and the Kings get their seventh power play of the game.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Second period ends with the Kings up 5-1. Kings outshot the Senators 16-1 in that period, thanks largely to all that power-play time.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Yet another power play for the Kings as Nick Cousins commit a hooking penalty.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
After several good opportunities on the two-man advantage, Panarin rips one home. Kings piling it on to make it 5-1, still a lot of time left in the second period.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Now the Senators commit a hooking penalty. Kings are about to get a 5-on-3.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Now Kempe gets a minor for a ... let's say questionable cross-checking call. Senators now on the power play despite having a major.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
The Erik Haula Hat Trick is a goal, a drawn penalty, and a committed penalty in the same game.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Call stands. Hodgson ejected for boarding. Haula also gets a roughing minor.
#GoKingsGo | @SportingTrib
Huge, fairly dirty hit on Brandt Clarke by Hayden Hodgson draws a major call, now under review.
