Had a great meeting today w/ a colleague at @PortobelloHigh. We talked all things Classical Studies: great work already happening, and plenty future potential. This visit was doubly special as Porty is my alma mater! The 'new' building is a real glow up from the 'Tower Block!'

Would really appreciate if folks could share this link about the CAS Ancient Voices Programme. This has been a project of mine with Sam Newington at @aberdeenuni, where we have tried to create a welcoming and low-pressure intro to ancient languages!
It's always exciting and nerve-wracking waiting for folks to enrol in the AV summer programme.
This programme has grown from year to year, through the pandemic and become a place where anyone can try out languages not often found outside a very narrow university environment!

ANCIENT VOICES 2026
Only a couple weeks left to register for AV2026!
This is our most diverse range of languages yet, and we remain dedicated to offering access at fair prices.
Our classes can only run with a minumum number, though, so sign up ASAP!
Great to see @StAmbHistory getting recognition in @scotonsunday! I've been privileged to help Emma navigate the path to GTCS accreditation in Classical Studies. Her success has been fantastic to see, and it's nice to see a Classics good news story making the national press.
Busy day of work around childcare, w/ a visit to Frogston PS in south Edinburgh to chat with the SLT about possible ancient offerings for pupils!
Rounded off with a CIC meeting hosted by @EducationScot, where I'm consulting as a 'Critical Friend' of Classical Language. ā at Straiton, Scotland
I had the pleasure of attending the show, this morning. Such a fun take on the beloved text by a talented group of young actors! ā at Straiton, Scotland
A quick plug for the Fringe: for the next week, the Hopkins School in New Haven is performing a dramatisation of the Latin textbook Ecce Romani, starting today at 10! They'll be very glad to see Latin fans in the audience (& meet them after). Details here edfringe.com/tickets/whats-oā¦
A bit late to the party, but coming to the end of a short break here has allowed me to finish 'Stolen Fragments' by Roberta Mazza. This is an astonishing book, combining detective memoir and an indictment of how scholarship has aided and abetted downright criminal enterprises. ā at Banchory, Scotland
Some of the tricks and lies spun by the charlatans at the heart of this book would seem barely credible if done in fiction, and yet these are all too real. I think my favourite bit was reading Mazza's text-based back-and-forth with a particularly unhinged Turkish dealer... ā at Banchory, Scotland
I love a good graphic novel, and so I was delighted to be given a copy of this version of Tacitus' Agricola 'en bande dessinĆ©e' by Ćdouard Michel, from the writer himself. This follows an already successful French language version, and is rendered now in Latin! ā at Straiton, Scotland
The artwork has a classic comic style, and plays well on the variously exoticised images of the Britons offered by the ancient author. While I would always love to see a bit more of Calgacus, I really loved the way the opposing speeches and imagery were presented as pure Tacitus! ā at Straiton, Scotland

There seem to be a number of ancient-themed shows taking place in this year's @edinburghfest! One that might appeal to many w/in the Classics community is this humorous take on the beloved Ecce Romani series!
On in the mornings at the start of Aug!
I was delighted to be elected a Fellow of @RoyalHistSoc! As someone trying to maintain a research profile without being paid for it, it's gratifying to be recognised for contributions to scholarship.
I hope this will open new doors for me in my outreach work as much as research.
Home from #CA2025 & reflecting on a great time. Attended every session & could've gone to more on top! Some big discussions about the future of the discipline & reminders of the vitality within Scottish Classics. Dum spiro spero! ā at Straiton, Scotland
An excellent first day at #CA2025, with more to look forward to tomorrow! ā at Saint Andrews, Scotland
It has been a great first day at #ca2025, talking in panels and chatting to old friends and new faces. If you would like to find out more about our efforts in Scotland, then don't hesitate to grab me and say hello! ā at Saint Andrews, Scotland
