Super Rude Bear Resurrection, the game I've been making for 3 years finally launches May 2nd!
RTs appreciated :)

For the first time ever I have made a ludum dare game that you can actually play on mobile lol
It's an homage to the Crimson Room and Viridian Room if you ever played those very evil games. but considerably less evil. but much longer
alexrose.itch.io/cerulean-ro…
my wife is a genius. we were explaining to her parents which ones are X and Y. she's like "it's like a graph. X is right and Y is up". how did I never realise that in 2 decades
I have woken from my eternal slumber for Ludum Dare streaming theme prediction as usual:
twitch.tv/alexrosegames
we should say muncle and duncle as shorthand for mum's brother and dad's brother. muncle duncle, mauntie, dauntie
couldn't find a nice fully offline free pokedex app so I rolled my own. 70mb. has everything, gen 3 style icons
the thing is, I don't think I can release it because.. it's just a load of copyrighted pokemon lol even as a free thing. so.. yeah. guess I could put up the source code so you can have it but source your own sprites, but kinda cba at that point. but it is cool nonetheless.
it seems like this is appealing to more people than I expected so I will try to get a public build out. some features I want to implement first though:
- party feature + ev tracker
- smogon tiers and recommendations
- mod region support (e.g. unbound, amethyst)
- gym leaders and badge section (especially for emerald rogue so I can track which gyms I've done)
- separate pages to browse items, move, type and ability
- party/box builder so you can track your current team
- shiny images
- tracking for caught pokemon. I guess if I did a desktop app I could probably give this some kind of api so it can update on the fly like twitch overlays
- otherwise just fully verifying the data is correct
- mod data importer so you can put in fakemons for a game, maybe for emerald/firered too I could write a dumper that will export it from a .gba to import
- stats at level n displayer with iv/nature/ev mods
honestly it would also be kinda lit to render routes based on route tilemap data but that would be a "if it was spectacularly popular" feature because that's a lot of data dumping and writing tilemapping. I don't really want to put screenshots of routes in because it's kinda unsustainable
I dunno, this is all stuff I would like to do anyway just for my own benefit so if there is public interest I wouldn't mind making it a public thing as long as people won't pester, I made an ev tracker a decade ago and people used to pester me with feature requests all the time. I am a full time gamedev with a mortgage so I can't dedicate my life to a pokedex app but as long as people understand that it isn't my top priority I am not against releasing
this got more interest than I expected so maybe I could roll something public. the things I would like to add:
- mod region support (like encounter and move data for pokemon violet, unbound and so on)
- gym badge/leader tracker (particularly for emerald rogue)
- smogon data (recommended builds)
- stats to be able to input evs/level/nature to see expected outcome
- separate pages for moves/types/abilities
- potentially a fakemon importer and a thing that will output that data from .gbas so I can import them for those games
- shiny sprites
- manual party and box tracker. potentially on desktop and phone this could also live update so it could track all the pokemon in your party and boxes for whatever game you're playing atm
- generally making the presentation a little nicer. maybe toggleable transitions etc.
would be nice to have a location browser with maps too but that is unlikely because it's so much extra work. but if I do this it's on the understanding that I am a full time gamedev, this isn't my job it's just a thing I find useful so as long as I'm not getting regularly nagged about feature requests I don't mind releasing it
just playing RE4 on the GameCube for the first time. it's unbelievable that people don't talk about how much Miyazaki ripped this game
so far I have seen:
- looping areas that continuously go back to hub save points
- level design is loads of wooden broken huts and bridges connected by ladders over swamps with boulders and so on
- a section where catapults fire giant fireballs at you.. in a castle.. and you have to stop between walls and run between them and kill the person operating them....
- all the levels are like swamps, lakes, castle, churches everywhere that loop back as hubs with multiple entrances
- a propensity to troll the player (like "shoot this fish and a giant fish will come out and eat you")
- story is backed by notes and inventory examinations
- fodder enemies take many hits and attack in groups in cramped corridors
- the game is heavily about limited resource management like heals and ammo, with weapon upgrades at points
- the basic healing items are even coloured grass like demons souls
- the enemies are all zombies, dogs, eldritch horrors and cultists
- the boss battles are probably the largest departure but still, each one has a distinct arena, often environmental elements, multiple stages, weaknesses
- puzzles are very similar like, climb here to throw a lever that opens up a passage on this side
- item collection is very similar, there's lots of flashing blinking things everywhere you can collect, you roomba around an area finding non-obvious rooms to loot
a lot of this you can say is true about any game but it's the amalgamation of everything together. it's basically dark souls except a third person shooter instead of a third person frame data melee game, and with more overt story/cutscenes. it's actually unbelievable, the more I play I'm like "surely this can't get MORE dark souls? whoops, wrong again"
can't lie, the starfox characters look creepy but I kinda enjoy that. what I do not enjoy is that UI. especially the bottom popups where the characters pop up looking like 20 something fps. very distracting to have two frame rates on screen in an action game
I hate tower defense games so I decided to make a tower ATTACK GAME #LDJAM
