Ready for #NSV2022 after a cancelled flight led to an unexpected journey to Heathrow airport! ✈️ Excited to catch up with old friends and make some new ones!

New preprint alert 🚨 Our latest SARS-CoV-2 work, showing that one of the domains in the viral RNA polymerase is an enzyme involved in viral RNA capping (and this reaction is inhibited by remdesivir TP)!

We present the first structures of influenza virus polymerase bound to an essential host factor, and these give us some amazing insights into how the #flu virus replicates/adapts for new hosts! Congratulations everyone @CarriqueLoic @haitian_fan @JeremyKeown1 @jonathan_grimes
nature.com/articles/s41586-0… @CarriqueLoic @haitian_fan @AlexWalkerPath @jonathan_grimes #notontwitterErvin. We solved a series of structures using #cryoEM of the ANP32-Influenza polymerase complex, and investigated it using functional assays. @OxfordStrubi @Dunn_School @NDMOxford

New pre-print from our lab and @aj_velthuis! We show that an anti-flu drug, enisamium, inhibits the RNA polymerases of both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 @haitian_fan @JeremyKeown1 @jonathan_grimes biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Our new paper is out! We find that the influenza virus polymerase has an RNA binding site required for elongation in viral transcription. Several other viral polymerases have a similar site - conserved mechanism? Take a look! jvi.asm.org/content/early/20…

Our lab is looking for a post doc to work on flu virus! Can't recommend the lab highly enough, it's a great place to work and do some top notch science
Post doc position available in our (Ervin Fodors) lab. A chance to work with a great group of people and do exciting science! my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecruit…

Our paper came out today! New flu polymerase structures, and the function of polymerase dimerisation in viral genome replication. Congratulations @haitian_fan @CarriqueLoic @JeremyKeown1! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

New studies are revealing an increasingly intimate interaction between influenza virus polymerase and RNA polymerase II, summarised exquisitely in this review (may be slightly biased since I wrote it!)
